Got a phone call today while I was getting ready for an appointment. City police had been told I had a metal detector and they needed my help. I got the info and called my local club president. Told him to rally the troops. I didn't think I had time to help but gave him the details. Police asked if we would meet them downtown. Apparently during a traffic stop last night, somebody tossed a gun into the snow along the street. People noticed some guys today walking along and kicking the snow and became suspicious. They called the police who filled in the details that they guy they stopped the night before had a holster but no gun. I decided I couldn't pass up a chance to hunt, even for a short time. My G2 is brand new. Indiana has been frozen and I have about 20 minutes of playing in my G2 logbook. I drove downtown and was amazed at all of the police, neighbors, and just curious people who were hanging around. The police told me that our club president was searching one alley, so I headed for the next one. I was picking up the iron in the concrete, so I raised the coil about 8 inches above the snow. I walked around the corner, started down the alley, dismissed a loud signal as being part of the building and then hit a great signal. There was little doubt in my mind that the loud signal I had two to three feet from the building and about 20 feet down the alley was the gun. I kicked the snow back and there it was muzzle down in the snow bank. The little kids who were following along with me started whooping and a hollering and soon a policeman arrived to guard the gun. They planned to leave it there until they could photograph it and the recovery. I hurried back to the car and made my appointment. It was a very productive ten minute hunt. I hope I can get a photo from them. It has to be one of my more unusual finds and a great way to become acquainted with the G2.
