G2 lands one of my goal coins - 1858 Flying Eagle

I have been hitting a spot that I hunted years ago with another detector. There is a ton of iron. I said my headphones sound like popcorn popping most of the time. You may remember a week or two ago I pulled an 1859 Fat Indian out of the spot. Yesterday I found a coin I have always wanted to find. It is rather ugly and worn, but it is my first Flying Eagle 1 cent coin. This one came out of the ground almost rusty looking. It looked more like a nickel than a penny. Got it home gave it a bath and dabbled at cleaning. It is slowly looking more like a coin. It has two holes neatly drilled, one high and one low. Makes me wonder if someone wore it as a bracelet. It is way too ugly for photos but it is something I always wanted to find. I have pulled a '45 Merc and an 1954 quarter from the same area with the G2.

I never had much of a goal list.....
I have rarely been IN location that has history and has been not hunted to death. I sure the park I'm in has been either hunted to death 20 years or more ago.
But I sure enjoy seeing what you guys find.

When I shifted a lot of my attention to hunting old house sites in fields I came up with a list of things I would like to find. The Flying Eagle was one, the half dime, and a three cent piece were the other main coins. Large cents were on that list but I got four last year and three and a quarter this year. I still like finding them but I would rather find a few of these others from the list. I am going back over the weekend and run the small coil. I want to try to pull a winner out of this crazy iron.

Nice find Don! It might be ugly but we would LOVE to see it!

Not sure that came out right.......lol

Nice I would like to have one myself. WTG!!!!!!!!!!

Well, you guys asked, here it is. At least the Flying Cent is starting to look the right color and I am pretty sure I can pick out the 1857 now. The war years silver was a surprise. I would expect a lot older silver but I like these two until the older one comes along. I thought the cool button was a cut coin till I got it home and cleaned up.
