G2 IN THE MAIL, ANY OTHER WORD ABOUT PERFORMANCE

Have the G2 in the mail and wondered if anyone else has been hunting with it and what are their thoughts about the detector. Its been kind of quiet! By the way Monte, Julien, Hershey1 ,Landstar, Earthmansurfer, Jbow and Jason in Tn, you guys helped me over the hump. Thanks! I'm not sure how long the ground will stay unlocked. It's getting cold.

You will like the G-2 it is lightweight and runs very quiet. Now they like those bottle caps but I have found with a little patience a lot of those can be left in the ground by wiggling the coil back to you or away from you. I have found if it is a good target the TID will lock on pretty well but those caps will start jumping around enough to make me think trash. After digging several to verify this seems to be true. Maybe someone else has an easier way. It does very good on coins and I have found a few buttons and bullets. All the targets I have found have'nt been real deep. The deepest was a clad dime about 9 inchs but I have no doubt it will go deep. Pin-points excellent. I have ordered the 5 inch coil and rain cover but have'nt gotten them yet so I can't comment on the small coil but from what I have read I will like it. I'm using GG Ultimates with the G-2 did'nt even open the ones that came with the machine. I did'nt buy the G-2 to replace anything I have but it has found it's own place in my arsenal. Good luck I really think you made an excellent choice. HH

Here is a great video. Watch and you can see how it performs.

thanks to Lowboy for this video, I think the second part is down some in the forum.

Amazingly quiet. It's usually running at maximum Sensitivity and not a problem!

Bottle caps: They were/are easily rejected with the old TR-Disc. models which functioned with a true, progressive discriminate function. Most of us just don't use the TR-Disc, circuitry anymore.

All motion-based Discriminate model DO have problems with Bottle Caps, and similar iron or other magnetic-based junk. You can use a couple of techniques to deal with it. We also have to consider the fact that while motion Discriminators already have a bit of a problem, use of a Double-D coil makes it a little more challenging because DD designs generally do not discriminate as well as a Concentric coil design, especially with ferrous-type trash.

Some manufacturers provide some help in their Owner's Manuals, such as Teknetics products, and I have a print-out available called Auto Target Classification (ATC). Most of the rejection of such trash can be determined audibly, but it will also tend to produce an Iron TID on display models as well. You can print it out, if you'd like, from the Tips & techniques section at www.ahrps.org

Coins, relics, tokens, jewelry, just name it and the G2 can get it done. Yep, the Pinpointing is very good with the 11" DD and even better with the 5" DD.

Like? Only Like the 5" DD? No, not if you put it to work in some trashy areas because you will LOVE that coil! :hot: I usually keep it on the G2 now but did switch to the 11" DD yesterday to work a wide-open playground before our freeze and snow arrived. Nothing great. Modern $ coin #19 for the year and some change but not the jewelry I was hoping to find. Now I'm back to the 5" DD because the G2 w/5" works great in the very junky sites I have located for winter-time hunts.

I think this is where you sort of summed up what I like about the G2. Unless a person buys it just for gold nugget hunting, I think the G2 isn't a replacement model for most people, but an excellent additional model. Great performance, excellent Disc. design, and all in a well-balanced detector with very quick response.

I, too, think captdirt made a good choice.

Have found some relics and two silver quarters while relic hunting with it so it will find the high conductors too. My favorite part did I tell you this thing runs quite.
