G2 ID'ing iron incorrectly? Myth? Omega better choice?

I'm thinking about getting either a G2 or an Omega and hear a lot of good about both, but just the other day I talked to a dealer who carried Teknetics who told me the G2 constantly id's iron in the 80's/coin range. Is there any truth to that or maybe he just got a bad machine? I'm a coin/jewelry hunter in trashy parks and was trying to find something that could id coins fairly deep, pick them out of dense trash, fast response and have the ability to be quiet around emi and not chatter constantly. Any thoughts?

I can't speak for the G 2 just yet, but the Omega is a terrific coin hunting machine and with the small DD coil it will truly amaze you on how well it picks through trash and id's coins with junk right next to the coin. I've been doing this a long time and the Omega has me scratching my head after many hunts on what it will do. It is just a dang nab great coin hunter. My 1 Memorials, anyway. HH jim tn

Thanks Jim! Do you have any problem with EMI and chattering? How's the build quality on that unit? I get to weedwacking at times when the grass and weeds get tall and some have said the omega and g2 are a bit flimsy. It's one thing to wrap your detector around a tree and another if you wrap it around stubborn weeds and grass.

I am mowing through grass a lot with mine. Parks and school budgets are to tight any more for weekly mowing. Don't let light weight lead you, or someone else's misconception, into thinking its not sturdy. It is! I do run into a spot here and there where emi comes into play. A couple of adjustments will quiet in down. HH jim tn

Both are FINE machines! I see the difference as the Omega has more adjustment options and signals more info. The G2 is simpler to use and therefore quicker to learn. I find it hard to believe anyone would be unhappy with either. While no machine is perfect, I don't see iron ID as an issue to reject a G2. What machine never falses on nail points or some other round items?

I know the Omega Is a Great machine and I would really like to give one a go but watching some of the vids Ive been checking out the Omega seems kinda noise. Maybe The guys were running a little hot. The other thing that is defiantly noticeable is how much faster the GB G2 are, Its like a Camero versus Volkswagen. LOL (welll maybe not that bad)
As far as Id on Iron goes Tom is right all machines have problems with nail tips and large iron and the g2 loves round stuff. Especially Gold Rings . Stainless washers sound so goooooood!!.
Good luck with your quest!

Thanks for the tips everyone, I agree with Bart that the dealer must not have had a G2 to sell to me but I will know first hand b/c I am gonna go with that G2. If I get it, check it out and find it's not suitable for what I want to do then I could likely sell it off fairly easy or trade for an Omega to give one of those a spin. I made a test garden last week that I will be trying it on; I know it's a fresh garden and not to expect too much depth without the halo effect, but I'm still hopeful! :detecting:

G2/Gold Bug Pro Its suitable fast and finds coins in junk better than any of my machines and the good targets sound good and like godigit1 said it loves round things put it this way you will not be able to swing it fast enough and it keeps up with tone and VDI took it over some ground i picked clean with the etrac and found more coins hiding in the trash what else is there to say!!!! :clapping:

I find my G2 will id some iron high in Disc....but in pinpoint as you swing the coil to the edge of the target tward you there will be tel tale sound of iron grunt and #s start to wounder, a good target won`t grunt on the edge of a coin/nonferrous #s stay the same.... works good try it... works on the steel bottle caps too

Ditto...except for round iron deep, like a harness ring or washer (or canister ball). I dug a lot of iron yesterday with my G2 that would ID in the 70's to low 80's that did not give the characteristic "grunt", but each object was deep, round, and a desirable item (for me at least; I don't mind iron relics as long as they are in Civil War camps). I also dug a lot of good non-ferrous stuff that would never have been found without the G2's capabilities, though, at a site that has been pounded with some great machines.
