G2 develops aggravating coil problem - - -

I am bummed. My tried and true G2, the master of the soybean field started sounding off today anytime the coil bumped a corn stalk. Tapping it on the ground gave the same aggravating signal. Yes it is under warranty, and yes I think Teknetics will take care of it, but boy do I hate that it has this problem. Need to stay out of corn fields I guess. My favorite saying to my hunting partners is "I hate cornfields". Now, I guess I have an excellent reason. I wonder if this issue bothers my performance in any other ways? If it is still working fine, I will put off sending it in till the middle of summer. Does anybody have an opinion of whether this sounding issue is a symptom or cause of any performance loss?

I am assuming you have checked all connections ang for any unwanted movement on the wire?

First thing I did was loosen, remove and re-tighten my cable. I had a little trouble with it yesterday, not seeing a target in the test garden like it should. I am going to try it again this afternoon. Switching to a bean field so less things to clobber it on.

First thing I would do would be to carefully check the coil cable itself (and connections over).-----Wiggle the coil cable at the entrance to the coil and see if that is the problem.----It sounds to me like it could be a coil problem.-----Put on another "like" coil (if you have one or can borrow one) and see if the detector acts the same way with another coil.-------I am able to run my G2 most of the time at 100% sensitivity without a problem.----My guess is that it may be a bad coil.----------Del

I used it tonight in a bean field and had no problems at all. This morning every time it tapped a piece of stubble it sounded off. I could also bump it on the ground and get the same signal. Tonight I hunted without anything to bump into and it seemed to work fine. I have been using it hard all spring and today was the first time I have ever had a problem. It seems to be working fine as far as depth and id. I hope to baby it into summer and send it in for a check up before fall. Thanks, for the suggestions.

My cable connection will not stay tight so evertime mine does anything strange that is the first thing I check and it is usually loose. Like Del said shake the coil cable if you get any racket it is more than likely your coil. Good luck. HH :teknetics::minelab:

Also Not with the BH/G-2 I was having a problem with another brand...I could not pin down the problem seemed like it was beeping and going crazy no matter how carefully I swung the coil /detector.. I though maybe a bad coil or connection..Then one day it dawned on me.. I use a tmobile windows smart phone....Something with that cellphone drives that detector crazy.
So keep in mind that other devices can drive detectors bonkers.
