G2 and AT Gold

Has anyone compared the G2 and the AT Gold? The reason I ask is because I use the G2 and really like this machine, it has found me many coins and jewelry. The only problem I have is that I have been run out a couple of times due to heavy rain. Since the AT Gold is waterproof that would work for me, just don't want to give up the performance of the G2. Thanks for any advice. HH

Like you, John, I wonder, but when necessary, resort to the plastic bag as well. I don't like to get soaking wet, anyway. HH jim tn

Which is the same as the G2 performance wise. I could not put the At in the same category as the G2 or GB. Not saying it is a lesser machine but it is not as fast of a recovery machine like the other two machines.

I think the waterproof aspect of the AT is a neat feature but not useful unless you hunt in water or you hunt in pouring rain regularly. Modern machines are weather sealed and I have been caught in downpours with my GB and now my Eurotek Pro....never had a problem. Obviously I do not keep detecting in pouring rain and I usually toss a baggy over the control box...if I have one...but I don't keep hunting. But never had the rain creep in yet and ruin anything.

Like said above just keep a plastic bag in pocket when rain is probable. I personally hate enviro covers and never use them...so a baggy is it

What I like about the G2 is the capability of using the disc from 0 to 80, great for cherry picking coins to looking for jewelry or looking for relics. I have read on the AT Gold and I didn't see anything about this capability, unless I missed something. Don't know if I could get used to the constant noise of the AT Gold while hunting. The G2 has done me very well and I've gotten used to it. Got to keep plastic quart size bags with me. Thanks.......

i can tell you from experience I've owned the g-2 and tried the at gold both great machines but I think the g-2 as a slight edge over the at gold but the at gold is deeper with the 5 x 8" coil now if they made the g-2 with a little more horse power under the hood and water proof you would have a perfect or almost all terrain detector, just my humble opinion.

If your referring the constant noise is the threshold that is only in all metal mode. In disc its the same as the G2. There is a full range disc on the AT Gold also, like on the G2.
The AT gold is a bit heavier to swing, being a little front heavy because of the control housing in front of the handgrip. The AT gold has a few more usuable options on it like iron audio.
If the water resistance of the AT isnt necessary its probably not worth switching.
