FZ-12 pro's and cons....

I have seen this Sunray 12 inch coil and air test were impressive. Anyone who has used one care to comment...

and I got to use it for a few hours on my 3D. I really liked it. It was about the same weight as my 10.5 in coil and it pinpointed very easily. I didn't get the opportunity to test it for depth. I would get one but I already have the 10.5 and the cost on the Sunray is a bit high.

Dan,

I don't know if there are really any cons to the FZ-12 especially if you know when to put it on and when to take coils that size off. As trash increases it's not the coil of choice. I am sure you're well aware of those issues... it's mainly being mentioned for other readers.

The FZ-12 has done a good job for me just about every time I have put it on. It's has found deep silver that I have walked over with other coils and machines. I have also pulled iron out of the same hole as a coin that my other 3D coils passed up. I also found a SLQ pretty deep. One thing I have found out is that the FZ-12 on my 3D loves very deep nickels. I have found alot of deep nickels with the combo. I have never seen a combo hit nickels so deep in my area. I had a small area that I detected and found quite a few mercs in. After I pounded it hard I (in a passing thought) figure I'd tie on my FZ-12 which was new at the time. Walk over and basically had two Buffalo nickels in under 5 minutes. That scene has happened alot since then. As Dave said it's about the weight of the 10.5 coil. But, it is pretty sizable. My opinion of the coil is very favorable. It's typical excellent SunRay quality.

Just got permission to hunt many acres of 1800's farmland so I am sure for coverage alone it will do the job..Sunray does indeed make nice acc. coils as you noted and of course right now working on my snowshovel swing , but the Spring will come quickly...thanks for the interest to post...

I guess I am lucky for being in PA. for some reasons and not on others. I am north of Altoona which wasn't really settled alot until after 1854. But, I can go 50 miles and be into the early 1800s... very late 1700s. Although, there are a few early 1800s houses around here if you know where to look. I am also lucky in that I set down in a valley and not in the mountains. There's a 1000 foot difference and there's still snow up there and not down here.... for the moment.

I used it today and found a 1912 V nickel with it... :)
