FX-1 Target Probe

I just tried the new probe and after using the uniprobe I have to say I don't like the FX-1. You have to move it like a coil and it didn't get close to the depth my uniprobe gets. I was ready to plunk down my money on one but not I will keep what I have because I know that it is one of the best probes out there.

That's strange. I've tried both and find the FX-1 to be every bit as deep in my ground as the Unirpobe. Even doing air tests. One thing I like better about the FX-1 is that whatever level of disc. you have your machine set at, it will be the same, but with the Uniprobe, there is no disc. Plus, on digging iffy signals, the Sunray probe is hardly EVER fooled by rusty iron. They are both excellent probes and will do a fine job for you. I just prefer the Sunray.

its nice to have a discriminating probe. If you dont want to have to "move it like a coil"..all you have to do is hold the trigger in while using it. It detunes just like the coil when in pinpoint mode and will give you spot on pinpointing. I'm eagerly awaiting the chance to use it in the bottom if a heavy Fe trash pit or hut!! should be a killer. Streak!

I was previously using the Vibraprobe 570 and it's been permenantly shelved after I got my FX-1. Major reasons:

1. Deeper than the 570.
2. It shares discrimination with the detector.
3. It sounds through the detector.
4. It doesn't interfere with the detector (you can't turn off the Vibra so while it's on, it interferes)
5. I don't have to carry it :)

I have just added one to my F-75 and haven't had a chance to actually dig with it yet (we're at 10

Charlie,

It will if you pull and hold the pinpoint trigger while you are centered in the hole as it will de-tune and shrink the signal. Hope this helps.

I have noticed that. And the excellent instructions covered it, too. But us old farts need a hand on the ground, a hand on the probe, a hand on the detector/pinpoint trigger and a hand for the trowel while trying to get that detector display where we can read it with our bifocals without the LCD fading from side-on or overhead viewing.

As I said, it's been too cold to dig (and still snowing, #%$@*&!) I'm really looking forward to wringing it out and I'm sure I'll have it worked out in short order. Thanks for the input.
