Future trip to Oregon coast

This summer my family will be going to the coast to try mding the beach. I am hoping that someone can give me ideas as to what I should look for at the beach. Should I detect right at the waterline or further back from the water. What time of the day is best, and what should I need to know about tides? We only have a week to hunt, so any help you might offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and HH Dennis in Idaho

Here is a site that will tell you everything there is about water hunting. It is a FANTASTIC site and I have saved the entire site to CD it is that good.
