Future of the X-terra line-up?

With the advent of the Equinox line of detectors, I wonder what will happen with the "obsolete single frequency" detectors, including Minelabs own single frequency detectors. My fear is, the eventual demise of a great detector. I already own 2 X-terras, and am now thinking about another 705. Perhaps there will be some very inexpensive 705s starting in the spring season?

Probably so but it doesn't make me not enjoy mine. I have had several 70's and 705's and on 50. I'll will probably always have one. But I have to admit I do want to try a equinox. I have to many coils to get rid of my xterra. They will always be a great detector. I think they will phase them out though.

My one hope for the X-Terra line post-Equinox is that Minelab loosens up the control of the X-Terra coil chip software and perhaps even make it open source. I'd like to see more less expensive multi-frequency coils on the market such as the {clandestine} coils for the X-Terra. Doing so would allay fears of those who like the X-Terra line but fear obsolescence post-Equinox and also promote the longevity of the X-Terra line.

I have a multi-freq {clandestine coil} that rarely leaves my X-Terra 705 since it is so stable and gives me great ground coverage. It is very good on salty beaches as well even considering I keep it on 18,5khz HF to get the little stuff.

[edited to remove names of illegal coils]

I agree 100%

You're dreaming. There is no way that Minelab is going to cut loose technology to those who saw fit to try to steal it.
You're more likely to see price reductions on authorized coils if that's what it takes to keep the line viable than you are to see them open up the market to thieves. The Xterra being the foundation of newer technologies employed in the CTX and Equinox isn't going away anytime soon.

There already are a lot of 705s hitting the market. I have bought two in the last two months. $300 for one with two coils and another for $309 with 5x10 coil, new pouch, new hand digging tool and new carrying case. This is a good time to get a great detector at a great price! The Equinox is using the VFlex technology with some more CTX 3030 type advancements.Like one coil, but frequency change at the head unit, waterproof, etc. Should have been out 5 years ago.

People who are not already using those XXX coils are missing out.
Sorry Randy, just have to say it.
