Future heirloom recovered

A friend of a friend texted me today and asked if I still had a metal detector, that a woman had lost her earring near the baseball field last night. I responded that I did have a metal detector and could help. I met up with the woman at her home and we proceeded to the field where I asked to borrow the other earring to get a match on my Etrac (12-02). The sample earring was much larger than I expected. I was picturing a single stud earring but check out the diamond encrusted prize. She said that she wanted to give it to her future daughter in law.
As with most mom's, in a rush to get to the next baseball game for her teenager, she had to leave in a hurry. I asked to borrow the other earring for sampling as I went along and she said ok. She showed me an approximate area (about 1/4 acre) and left. After about 20 minutes in the uncut grass I found the missing earring. I felt so happy to have found it. She said about 10-15 people had looked last night and I pictured someone had found it and walked.
I had to wait about 2 hours to bring her the "pair". Upon arrival I stated that I was there to give back the one she let me use, a brief silence,........then I handed over the second one and got the biggest hug and could tell she was very appreciative. To see the smile on her face was one of the best Father's day presents I could get other than spending it with my family today.
