FUSE WITH IMPRESSIONS

New member
I found this artillery fuse, the only thing I found all day. Its made of pewter and has the distinct impressions of 6 round balls on it. Can you tell me what kind of fuse this is and what shell this may have been on ?
Thanks, idugit

Great find! That is one unusual fuse. I cant even imagine how those impressions got there.

edit: I found this picture of a parrot time fuse adapter. It looks very similar but your seems shorter.

For what its worth I'd say its a fuse from a grapeshot round - that would explain the round indentations on the side. I've never seen one unpacked, but assume it was filled with the balls up to the point of meeting the fuse. As to the exact type, can't help you there. Very nice unusual find; never seen one like that before.

This is a situation where a Federal Parrott shell (10 or 20 Pdr) carrying case-shot exploded and the case was driven into the lower part of the fuse on detonation. Very Nice find.
