The other evening (can't remember which) I was out in my front yard, that's been detected TOO DEATH! over the last 5 years. I was running 2 tone ferrous with the Relic Pattern for discrimination. I got an interesting faint signal and decided to dig (what the heck, it's my yard). Well, it was one of those REALLY DEEP ones that I'm not yet used to.......(new E-Trac user). I, once again told myself " Awe, BS! There's nothing down here, it's too deep. Must be a false signal". Well, it wasn't a false signal. At god knows how many inches, I pull out a coin......at least I thought it was a coin. It gets dark and I go inside, wash up the "Coin" and it's just a copper slug. No markings whatsoever on it. I show my wife and I say "Shoot! I thought I had an old coin, but it's just a blank copper slug". I put the slug in a plastic ziploc bag and set it aside. Fast forward to today. I'm bored, it snowed again. I pull out the plastic bag which had a couple of pretty cool pieces of costume jewelry in it that I wanted to clean up for my display cabinet. I get to picking through all the stuff (new E-Trac finds). I give the copper slug a rinse and a scrub with the toothbrush and catch a faint profile on its face in the light that looks like the face on a V Nickel! It is a V Nickel! I play the light and get my magnifying glass......1889! I'll be danged! I KNEW it was a coin! I am gonna have to learn to trust this machine, this is gonna' be my best year yet. The coin was so badly worn that is almost smooth and with the oxidation, the details were almost impossible to see. I am doing the electrolosis thing right now and hope to get something I can take a picture of to show you all. It's no showstopper but it is really cool for me to find any 1800's coin here as our town wasn't founded until 1905. I can't wait to go again....Thanks for listening
