Fun time with the Digger this morning

Ok, it doesn't look like much, but it was a fun couple of hours. I didn't take a picture of the pile of trash I brought home. I followed everyone's advice for using the little Digger and it was a different, far more capable little coil than my first experiments with it. The little earring piece is just costume junk, but finding it was really interesting in that generally the depth arrows are a decent indication of how far down to start digging, but the earring was twice as deep as the indicator said. I gave me two arrows, but I couldn't figure where the dang thing was since at four or five inches the pinpointer didn't pick anything up at all. So I rescanned and still got a signal, dug a little deeper, and still nothing and I thought it was one of those "phantom signals" that goes away after digging a hole. So I gave up and filled the hole but I just couldn't let it go - so I scanned again and the signal was still there. I dug again, this time at about 8+ inches the pin pointer hit a signal and out came the little earring piece. Well, lesson learned there for sure about assumptions and what depth indicators really mean. Thinking back I remember I noticed the signal was just a little quieter than shallower targets, but not by much. I was running sens at 19.

I noticed that every time I found a coin, the Digger just hammered it. The earring piece came in at 38 TID with OK repeatability but sounded like a poor penny signal but with a few "in range" tones to keep me interested. I'm not sure if it's experience or stupidity, but I couldn't let it go. With coins however, it was like OLH said in his review in that signals are absolutely unambiguous: there is very little "iffy" with coins. Shallow depth indications and the rock solid "doubled up" tones from some of the pennies lead me to believe more than a few times the target was laying right on top but after digging I found them to be at least four inches deep. Man, this little coils just hammers coins so that I'm afraid they'll be dented when I pull them! OK, I exaggerate a little bit but you can tell I'm digging the hot little Digger.

Correction: I meant to say "but after digging I found them to be at least two inches deep".

I know what you mean about coins never being iffy. I'm afraid to take the little digger off in case I do get it over a silver 6" dime or something similar. When I first started with it I was getting a strong clad quarter hit but sharp and loud. Just a tad brighter audio and solid 42 TID. Thought I had a shallow quarter. When I pulled a larger coin from 4" - 5" my heart jumped in my throat. It turned out to be SBA dollar coin 1979. Then dug two more 12 - 24 inches away. Not valuable but you don't hit many dollar coins so big fun..

Great work with that digger coil, If I could tear myself away from the beach, maybe in the fall, I Might be looking for one in the classified.
Keep at it and GL.
