From the land of the Bluenose.....saw this on the California Forum and thought it would be a hoot. 10 questions that you have been asked while detecting. Here's a few of mine. Enjoy!

From the land of the Bluenose....one that comes to mind when doing a swish (water dig) is

Hey mister what you doing?

Looking for leeches I replied. Of course one time a kid ran out of the water like a scalded cat and told his mom..........man did I get dirty looks.

Once at the Dingle which is a hot spot here for land digs, I was detecting when a bus load of Japanese tourists entered the park and began snapping photos of me. Of course I was wearing a necklace with over a 100 rings on it and I was extremely hung over. One fellow appraoched me and asked what I was looking for and commented on my rings. I (again feel bad about it in retrospect) replied I was looking for land mines and these where from the fingers of folks that had been blown up. Not one of my finest hours for sure.

*I have to admit I've used the: "I'm searching for land mines" then swing my coil in front of them, back up real quick and say, "Uh oh!" (but I'm quick to smile and say, "only kidding!")

*I've had numerous people ask me if you can really find stuff with a MD. I always say, "sure". But I've wanted to say, "Why do you think there are 2 dozen people on this beach with $1,000 metal detectors???"

*Then there was this woman this past summer (wearing more jewelry than Mr. T; complete with rings on almost all her fingers) asking if I found her $200 gold earring... (I wish, I thought) "Where'd you lose it?", I asked. "Out there", pointing to the Atlantic ocean. I told her that she really shouldn't wear all that jewelry to the beach. She just rolled her eyes. I told her that MDr's LOVE people like her. :)

*A guy asked me if I found his high school ring... "I lost it in 1942"

*A man asked me, "Did you find my watch?" I replied, "Was it the Rolex Presidential with all the diamonds?" "Yes!", he said. "Yeah, you and everybody else!"

The great thing is, all those crazy questions lead to me sharing about the hobby (long conversations) and eventually how I found a Christian metal detecting site which occasionally ends in me sharing my faith... :)

where he could buy a weedwhacker that ran as quiet as mine!

and I suppose movies like National Treasure doesnt do anything to dispell the myth that detectors and geiger counters are one and the same.

No lady it's a metal detector.

Are you searching for buried treasure? (Little Kids)

What are you doing? Looking for pennies, nickles, dimes and quarters.
Would like me to make you a sandwich? Girl of about eleven. About tore my heart out that she thought that I was scrounging for coins to buy food.

Did you find any quarters? (little kid) Where did you lose it? Points to the open area of the park. No I'm not going to use my equipment just find you a quarter. Con men come in all sizes and ages.

Not me but my cousin:
You're not going to find anything there. I've been over it with my (brand name witheld to protect the stupid). Cousin Don then shows him the silver dime he dug up. After the second silver dime, the guy went back into his house across from the school and never said another thing.
