Fun hunt 'til darkness set in...but it ended up wet and sloppy:detecting:

Brad (Big Digger), Dave-IL and I hunted a new spot this afternoon thanks to Brad.

He was able to obtain permission from a nice feller' who had a couple of vacant lots.
The lots were adjacent and one used to have a bank on it while the other was a little general store.

Within 30 minutes I had my first silver so I was hoping for a nice couple of hours. It is rare that I ever get to swing my coil over turf that I haven't hit 1000+ times over the last 30 years...and this was one of those times.

As we were hunting...the guy who owns the lots and granted Brad permission... pulled up and started talking to us. He was a super nice fellow and told us what he knew about the spots since the buildings had been torn down long ago.

The news he had was good...because he told us that back in the early 50's when he was a kid... the now vacant lot was used to show outdoor movies.

People would gather here and sit on blankets or lawn chairs...and watch the movie on a big screen set up in the center of the lot.:) BINGO!!:clapping:

As Brad and Dave were standing there talking to the fellow....I exited stage left:cool:...and began swinging the coil in the general area the guy pointed out to us.:)

I popped out a couple of wheaties in the nearly 30 minutes Brad and Dave were talking to the fellow.

I then got a sweet, deep, high pitch warble that put a smile on my face:)...so I glanced over at Dave and nodded my head to get his attention.

As soon as he saw the smile on my face...he came over to give it a listen and his face lit up too.:clapping:

We cut a plug in the very soft moist ground and out popped another merc.

It was strange though because I kept getting another warble from much deeper:cheers:. I dug out another 3" of mud and was shocked to see a second silver come out.:surprised:...and it was a little bigger:thumbup:

From 3" deeper than the Merc:wacko:...about 10" ...came the Washington quarter??:yikes:

Not sure how the bigger Washington quarter ended up sinking deeper than the Merc???...but hey...I'm not complainin'.:smoke:

Before I could get the hole filled back in...Dave took off his coat and was firing up his SE to start hunting:biggrin:. After seeing two silver come from one hole...he decided he would leave the talking to Brad:bouncy:.

It started to get dark on us by now...and poor Brad and Dave had spent the better part of our hunt time talking:cool:.

Not me though...cause' I made a smooth exit from the conversation:cool: and added 2 more silver to my pouch before Brad and Dave even got started:biggrin:. Hey...what are friends for? :smoke: :bouncy:

About 30 minutes passed and I glanced over at Brad and Dave floundering around in the dark like I was:).

I was now in an area that was like a swamp:confused:...but I was hoping for one more nice hit before I gave up.

Thank goodness I got one a short time later. When I tried digging a plug though...the hole would fill in with water faster than I could scrape the muck out.:crylol:

After sifting and straining through the watery muck...another Merc came into view. A perfect way to end the hunt...one last silver coin...from a watery hole...as darkness took over.

We had a great time and it was awesome to swing my coil over ground that I haven't hammered 1000 times before like lmost all my other sites.

If all hunts ended with a silver to wheat ratio like this one...I'd be a happy feller':clapping:

-Nice hunt guys:thumbup: Bryce nice pile of silver you the man, WTG :clapping:

Congrats ! 4 silvers on a winters day in february? You could'nt have asked for better.

Nice going Bryce. I know what you mean about swinging a coil over ground that hasn't been passed over a thousand times before by other coils. I also know what you mean about digging in the muck and the water fills in the hole before you can find your target. That's how the ground was at our hunt last Sat where I got those last two V nickels. Glad you guys finally got out and knocked off a little bit of the cabin fever. Hope you get out again soon. GL & HH.

Eddie

That's a great 4 silver hunt Bryce....WTG!! The last plug you dug that
filled up with water and muck, is exactly what we deal with in my area
during our winter hunts when we can get out. You got to be quick and
accurate with your pinpointing and digging or you spend a long time
looking for the target. HH Gold Nuggets :wiggle:

Great post, Bryce. I felt like I was there with you guys. Congrats on a super hunt!

Like Dan said...all your hunts are told so that we feel we're right there with you Bryce. Maybe now you've got a new spot to hit 999 more times. Congratulations on the finds. I sometimes wish I had BRAD and DAVE DECOYS to talk so I could swing just a little more!

Great early season hunt Bryce..........still snow on the ground here in NE Iowa..........WTG!!! Hawkeye Jim.

Cool post. Like some other guys said---I felt like I was right there sloshing in the mud with you.:twodetecting: Looks like you guys had fun. Nice finds too!

Good job bud. You rescued some deep ones and everybody had fun. Sounds like brad is a talker so he and I would get along great. How is he liking his SE?

It was a fun hunt buddy. Next time I will leave all the talking to Brad so you don't get all the goodies:crylol:

Nice finds and pictures. You always make me feel like Im a the spot hunting with you! What coil is doing the trick for you now? Don't want to put on the spot but just curious.

Nice brother!!! I hope you are doing great! Keep in touch
