Fun day with Jim-IN ,,,Plus possible Civil War relic???

Met up with Jim today at another park that i have never been to!!! But like all the parks, this one as well has been pounded and pounded!! Right away we started poppin some nice green wheats out of the ground,,, Actually my first coin of the day was a 1882 Indian !! Jim ended up finding the first piece of silver,, That dirty dog,, But what seemed like for ever, i was able to put one in my pouch as well!!! After Jim and i parted i went back to Richmond.. I wasn't planning on detecting any more because it was getting pretty toasty out! A friend of my called and said he had something to show me. So i drove to this 1832's house where he pulled out a old belt buckle with the letter's US in the front! Not knowing anything about relics or relic hunting i thought it was a pretty sweet find! He told me to pull my detector out and see what i could dig up! 15 minutes later i was calling him over... I pulled a plating out of the ground that was the exact size and had the same letter's on it but mine is missing the backing!! I clammed they were fake... Thinking those old belt buckles were a rare thing to find.. But to be honest.. I don't have a clue!! Does this plating look familiar to any one on hear!!! Did the old Civil War belt buckles have a plating on them like what i found??? Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Thanks everyone!!

have found the outer skin of a US plate. This would have been lead filled. Who knows- they may have melted the lead because they were low on ammo so they took it from this plate. Because of this, can't really tell if it was a belt plate or a box plate. Congratulations!

Hey Darrell..... i got down your way today. Just thought it was time for a road trip. Picked me up a 1891 seated quarter and a 1898 barber dime. That was about 4 hours work in the heat. Man you are still bringing in the goodies.
