Frustrated

I have had permission for a while from the Landowner to search the oldest House in Town. Been waiting at least a year for the current renters to move out. They recently moved out and I have been hunting pretty regular. So far 0 Silver coins. I am getting 65s and 70s but no silver. I have altered between my Cortes with a 5.75 and my Golden Saber II with a Brown Donut. I have found several handfulls of Clad coins but no Silver at all and not one Wheat penny. Found a spill of quarters today with the Golden Saber and a couple hot wheels cars. Man I wish I had started a collection of those. Hoping for a rain now. The ground is so hard and dry Zincs on top are not even hitting hard. I did find two bottles of Nail Polish and these were buried. My Daughter had a fit over one and took it. I use Nail Polish all the time, so I guess it was worth $2.00 a bottle.

By the way in case you are wondering Nail Polish uses.

1. Sealer for Primers while reloading
2. Locktite for Bolts and Nuts
3. Helps with Chiggers.

Is there much trash? Maybe try the 8 inch doughnut coil on the Cortes to get some depth. Turn down the discrimination and start digging all repeatable targets and something good will turn up. Maybe a gold rings or two. :)

Surprisingly there is not a whole lot of trash but Zincs are every where. Most of them have nicks in them like a Lawn Mower hit them. I am getting so many targets, I am worn out in a couple hours. about 75% of targets are coins though.

I have the stock Coil for the Cortes but I honestly believe I get as good Depth and a whole lot better ID out of the 5.75.

I really think some of the many local Metal Detectors hit this House years ago when the Coins were not so deep.

Also possible their masked by all the other items. Slow down and dig the iffy sounds.. You may be surprised...

Try all metal and dig all targets in an area and see how you do...

I hope you find the silver. Seem like you should at the old house

Your nail polish use is right on although I've never used it for Loctite but have for the primers and chiggers. I hate chiggers. Got into a mess of them during a club hunt when I live in Dallas and after that I took precautions. I learned about the nail polish then as well as bathing in flea dip everytime I went detecting in the springtime. I tried the repellent and the sulfa powder but it didn't seem to be as usefull as a 15 minute soak in flea dip followed by a hot shower with lots of soap. Gold Bond Powder seemed as usefull for relieving that itch as anything else I tried.

I feel your frustration. I have been hitting a lot of territory which should be producing jewelry (ball fields, soccer fields, tot lots, parks, schools, etc.) and I can't seem to get on any silver or gold. It's only a matter of time and perseverance. Make sure you share on the Today's Finds forum when you do get your gold and silver.

I think many of us have gone through what you are experiencing.
I've been to more than a few places that I was very opimistic about only to have the same kind of results as you.
I would keep pounding the area until you find all the good sounding targets and then slow down and listen for those iffy signals.
I have done this many times and just about when I thought it was time to move on, the old silver coins started coming to light.
My buddy and I searched a yard a few years ago and found lots of newer coins and a few wheaties, but only found 2 silver dimes that day.
We went back many times after that and found quite a few more silver coins, IH cents, and old buffalo nickels, but they came slowly.
We searched a yard that dated back to 1905 earlier this year and did not find one wheat penny.
I did find one silver dime.. 1917 mercury dime.
The next trip yielded a 1917 quarter.. other than that, no other old coins were found in that yard.
Sometimes you just have to keep pounding the ground until you are certain you have found everything that your machine is capable of detecting.
Good luck and keep us posted on your future hunts there.. I believe there are some old coins there somewhere even if others have been there before.. thinking like that will cause you to lose interest in the site.

Silver coins are hard to find everywhere, now. I've been hunting 35 years, and back in the 80's and early 90's, they would keep your adrenalin up. Now, they will make you do a happy dance. I only find one once in a while now while CW relic hunting in woods or big fields. They are usually VERY old ones. Towns seem to have been wiped-out.

Try what Elton said. Pay close attention to the iffy and faint sounds. Will dig more and deeper but rewards may be greater.
