Frozen shaft

Is there anything I can soak the lower rod with that will make it come loose? I always take the lower rod off the shaft on my Plugger rod when I get home from hunting. This time I got home, flushed it good with freshwater but had things to do so waited a couple of days, that was a mistake. Now I can't even budge it, don't want to force it for fear of breaking it. I always spray the lower rod with silicone spray before hunting, do you guys do anything special to keep it from freezing up? May have to order a new lower rod, where can I ger one from? Thanks, John

If you have access to an air compressor a blast of compressed air might help loosen it. I don't deal with saltwater anymore, but when I did I always made sure to not only rinse, but also wipe everything down with a wet towel while doing so. That dried saltwater can really hang on, and wiping it down makes a huge difference. There's also a product called "Corrosion X" that is a spray that is very popular with saltwater fisherman. If regular spray oil isn't doing the job then that might be a good option for you.

I've taken the coil off and put a large phillips screw driver through the coil bolt hole on the lower rod and used the screw driver to get some leverage and carefully twist the rod side to side until it broke loose. Before doing that, I hit it with penetrating oil and let it sit a while.

Good luck!

that happened with my old excal too..... i tried everything, soaking in fresh water both hot and cold,wd- 40, propane torch, vise, hammer.... i never did get it apart....i ended up cutting the lower carbon fiber shaft with a hacksaw...at that point i was able to salvage the upper shaft but i think i had to cut a little off of that as well....what a mess......you should have better luck than me as had sprayed yours prior to use....sometimes the worst of it is the fine sand particals that get wedged in there...... take your time and soak it several days,,might have to tap it with a hammer after that to get it to budge...if you can get any movement out of it at all you will eventually be able to work it free... if not ,just live with it if its adjusted to your favorite length ... good luck...

I bought one that away. It had been like that for awhile. I took a little WD40 sparyed it. The grabbed the lower rod and tapped it with one of those plastic headed mallets at the cam lock. grabbing the lower rod obsorbed some of the impact from the mallet. Took a min.... but she came off. Yours cant be that locked yet. After that i bought a plugger cam lock and took the other off.... no more problems.

and like bootyhoundpa said, yes, atleast it is set for my hunting length if I can't get it to loosen without breaking rod. Thanks and HH John

Just rinsing in fresh water doesn't remove all the salt. You actually need to use soap and water after hunting and leave it apart until it has dried completely.

Took me a while to free it up but got it done without breaking anything. Next time I will rinse it good in the field and remove lower rod till I get home and clean it good, don't want to go thru this again. thanks....
