They are now to the panning stage of the Infantry camp I had been diggin. Just as the last tree had fallen there, the first had fallen at another camp. This is a camp of the 2nd Corp. I have got about 6 hours on it so far. The buttons are all Eagles, and one Eagle I. I recovered some items from the first hut located at the site, like the stone ink, a few buttons, and notice the blue porcelain button.... not really sure if its period, but it was in the hut sift. Its only fitting that I dig a "CHERRY BOMB" ON THE 4TH, this is my first Cannon BALL and I'm not really sure why a Solid shot would be at this camp, still researching the site.

Thanks for looking and Good Luck in your Digs,
Dave

Wow look at all those Buttons...and an Ink well to boot followed up by the big ole Cannon Ball! I would love to have places like that here in NH but The war never came this far...Now that Looks Like Fun! I love to Bottle dig so I know I would like that kinda digging and sifting....Good Luck..Cheers!

Mattockman,
Come on to good ole Virginia, I'm not afraid to share.

wow Dave great finds, I've been tracking your finds and your having a lot of success, congrats to ya. I'm from northern va and also look for construction sites. Unfortunately a lot of them are posted right off the get go. Anyway maybe we can get together sometime. I'm relatively a new exp II user for about 4 months now and learning a lot from all these posts. This is a great site and I'm glad it's out there. Hope to hear from you soon!

Thanks Dave,
Hey , ask Supervisors for permission on those posted sites, usually you'll get a yes as long as you go evening and weekends when equipment is not running. I usually hit em in the evenings from 6:00 to 9:00. Get it before the dozers do.

Your blue porcelin button is period. I have a number in that color. Secondly, the reason you found a solid shot in an Infantry camp is: Soldiers would steal solid shots from the Artillery (or "borrow" one from a friend in the Art'y), take them to camp and set them in the fire pit. When it was time for bed on a cold winter night, they would bury them 6-10 inches underneath their bed roll (this was if they were sleeping under the stars or in shelter tents. The "hot shot" would warm the ground and keep them warmer during cold nights. Nice finds and congrats on your first shot. Good hunting, David @ Dixie
