From an 1800's site, all in one hole.

It appears to be brass there is one stone missing in the center. There is a narrow flat bail on the right side in the picture for possibly a ribbon? Never bumped into one like this before. No evidence on back of other missing mounts.

In the same hole was what looked like a stick pin mount and possibly an applique, all brass. Also most of a set of leather suspenders minus most of the leather along with tons of iron and possibly some trunk hardware.

Also wonder about dating the US collar tab. It's a pin back with the pin intact, same hole!

The top piece has a black "gem".

Mourning jewelery, late 19th c, often had black decoration made from jet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jet_%28lignite%29.

It could also be black glass.

The top piece looks like it may have been one half of a "nurses buckle" ...if so there would have been a matching piece that hooked onto it like this.....

Thanks for the input! It appears that it is a Victorian era sash buckle half. Pretty cool find!
