Frist hunt 17 inch coil

Great finds Larry! That coil really did the job for you! I enjoyed our hunt today and maybe we can get out again, before too long!

Not bad!

From the various posts I've read about the 17 inch coil, it seems that people that have bought one and then taken it out to some place that has been hunted a lot start bringing back new finds in silver coins that otherwise may not have been found with the stock 11 inch coil, at least that's the impression I've gotten. Nice finds!

True McClod.... For me I honestly don't think it is the extra depth which has helped but the extra coverage area.

Thanks GKMan for the info, and good point! Do you find the larger coil overly tiring? I plan on buying one probably in May and am thinking I may want to get the Minelab harness to go with it.

I didn't want to imply that I don't think the 17 incher doesn't give a bit more depth, but I just don't believe that I have encountered coins that I wouldn't have hit with the stock coil.
Honestly, I do not find the coil tiring even though I tend to fully extend the shaft and I am not a big guy

Thanks GKMan for the extra weight info, that's most reassuring to know! I'm hoping I won't need the Pro-Swing but if so for long hunts I'll get one. I ordered the 17" hula-hoop yesterday, supposed to be here today. Can't wait to try it out even though I'm not looking forward to re-learning how to pinpoint it!

The thing that scares me about the extra coverage is not being able to hear a good target next to or near trash or iron? The ballpark, I imagine was pretty trashy right? Did you notice any difficulties in target separation? I want the 17" like now.. but my spots are ridiculously loaded with unwanted trash/iron..

I am a big proponentof using the 17 inch coil. But it sounds like the sites you're talking about are not going to be the ones where you want to be swinging it.

The 17 inch coil would for sure miss some of the smaller good targets near to trash. The extra coverage is great though. Mine has been used twice so far in 6 months!

I on the other hand haven't taken it off since last year. But as I always say, that is because of the type of hunting I do where targets are far and few between.

Dude that was a great hunt!
Congrats!

Kevin, I have the same problem with my 11 inch coil. I put a silver quarter within 2-3 inches of a piece of iron and in ground coin get absolutely nothing, totally blank. In Ferrous Coin its not much better, this is on the surface though. Worries me about how much or many times I've went right over a silver coin and heard not a peep out of my machine. I hunt mostly in Ground Coin with our mineralization, but have been experimenting much more with Ferrous coin and keep it on the flip side so I can switch back and forth between GC and FC program by pressing the light button having set that to previous mode. I know people here have mastered the art of finding coins hear iron or in junk but I'm not one of them, sure am trying to be though! I've put at least 150 hours on my machine in less than 6 months so I'm working on it anyway. It worries me with the 17 too but I just shrug and hope that I'll cover enough ground to make up for one I didn't hear but hell with my luck they're all near iron in our ground. Probably explains my only finding 13 silver coins in my first year of hunting, all of those being found this year. It gets frustrating hunting so hard and not finding silver coins, I could care less about clad and we don't have colonial coins in my neighborhood so its go silver or go home. I usually wind up going home. without silver.

Sometimes its not you or your machine that is not finding silver, it just is not there. Find some new spots.
The 17 inch coil is a great deep coil making old spots new again. The coin count will not be of hoard quantity but a few coins may still remain.
We have done a couple of pounded local fairgrounds with some good success. Going slow and listening to the small high tones that repeat. The ground is
full of nails and trash so I believe the coil does separate as does the machine.
The 17 inch coil does have its place and use. Not selling mine anytime soon.
My 2 cents.
Get out and hunt, enjoy the hobby
JOHN

I'm going out this afternoon, first time in days the April showers have let up and I haven't hunted for a few days now. I'm used to hunting in the rain in our part of the country, but needed a break, digging in mud does get pretty old! Who knows, maybe I'll find my next great silver or gold coin find today!? Gold coin would be a huge first for me! I won't give up and you're right, silver has to be there to find it, and it's there, just not in the quantities or qualities as other places in this country. HH!
