house built in 1903.
several residents....over the last century plus...
mentioned some old trash pits.......droooolllll.......
any advice guys?or what i might find???
i have carte blanche and nobody that she knows of has detected there....
gonna dig nice plugs in yard..been practicing..will set for silver first go round..any other things i should look for or do?
not an old civil war site but seems like a good way to cut my newbie teeth?or just go all metal and dig everything???
don't think the back yard will be too trashy....no sidewalks i know of.just an old residential home...small cozy area....
any advice welcome......
might possibly get to detect neighbors yard too....
1900's era as well....hoping for a few silver coins?who knows????/
will probably snoop a few hours after work in the morning......
i'm stoked...my first private site with some potential???

I would dig everything that did not require a shovel. But start looking for coins and jewelry close to the house itself and around walkways. Hit some of the easier spots first to warm up. Don't waste you first hour fiddling with the detector.
When warmed up .. then try the meticulous lawn extraction.
Go slow and enjoy!

Here's my advice. STAY AWAY FROM THE TRASH PIT!!!! That area will waste your time and will produce minimal results. UFO'sAreReal said it best. Get the easy hits first, even if they are clad. GO SLOW and dig nice. This should take you a while. Then rescan for those deep "iffy" targets which are more likely to be Wheats and silver. Good luck. Did I mention GO SLOW (LOL). I know my heart would be racing at that offer!!! But patience wins the battle. Let us know how you made out. HH

thanks...
wouldn't you know its raining tonight?sigh....probably rain in am too....
my tesoro vaquero ain't shipped yet,...bummer....
couldn't use it in rain anyway...
so i may take out the whites beach id i just got and try it out on the lawn...lol....
redneck lawn/beach hunting..........
how would you define the ''mine'' in the tall backyard grass?lol maybe where the old clothes lines were???
thanks for advice guys...
i'll let you know if i find anything.....

I Would First Check The Front Yard. Are Thier Any Trees?Does The House Have A Front Porch?Back In The Day, The Porch And Yard Were The Place Gather As A Family. The Shade From Trees Would Make It Cooler On A Hot Sunny Day.Before Air Condition. We Detected A Old Home.Thats The Area We Found Old Coins. At The Beginning Look The Place Over.Try Determine The Most Used Area.If You Detect A Spot Detect From Every Direction.Dig At First Every Repeatable Singal. You May Be Surprised. We Worked The Whole Yard.Always Recheck The Spots You Found Coins.Good Hunting Hope You Find Coins And Things.

well it stpped raining....
went out for a few hours...i set the garrett tmaster on disc pull tab and went a huntin...was getting broken signals everywhere....
sounded like digital popcorn....lol
went to all metal and dug repeaatable signals....
found 3 olllllllld chains, some old tin cans that turned to powder once i pulled them out......
what looked like some turn of the century patent bottle shards, some old pottery fragments, pieces of old plates and the back metal piece of a flex type watch band...[the clip.....]all coming 5 inches or deeper.....and of course the obligatory nails......
also found some rusted out scissor handles...just enough left to see they were handles...they disintegrated too....
the good news no ''new trash'' no pulltabs or aluminum cans.......just ollllllddddd trash...lol.....does that make it a better site?
will be going back....she said i could dig whenever...whatever.......
she declined hershare of the treasure i found...lol......
was happy to get it out of the yard though......
