One of my favorite standby spots will be no more, the dozers have come once again. This has always been a productive Confederate site for me, with many coin finds, and today no different finding the usual. Though a small site under fast construction, I'll do my best to save whats left before their certain destruction.

Thanks for looking and Good Luck in your Digs,
Dave

Good job Dave! I'm still digging away in Stafford... I've been going in some areas I've secured permission in around Argyle Heights/Ferry Farm if you're familiar with the area. Pulled up about a dozen bullets, another eagle button, and a ton of what look like tent rivets, and a couple other things. I really need to get some pictures! I'm still waiting for that elusive US plate to be found. Guess I'll have to keep searching... And as for the holes in your yard, they must be crop circles ;)

Nice finds. I hope you can clean that place out a little more before it is developed over. Keep us posted.

And the worst thing is all the union lines are still available cause they are normally outside of a town but the Confederate lines have been or are in the process of being covered.

In our area a good portion of the Confederate lines are preserved as Gov't protected Battlefields, but a good portion of the camps are accessible. To me development is good and bad. It opens up opportunity to recover relics that probably never see the light of day unless the trees were removed and you find a lot more, almost as if nobody ever detected there. If you seen my recent post of the US Buckle I recovered; in a 20 x 20 area cleared by the dozer, exposed the buckle and at least 50 bullets, and you would not believe how many times that area had been detected before construction. Take the good with the bad.

You've got some great points that I totally agree with, and some I didn't think of.
I just worry about our hobby down the road. I like hunting in the woods even with all the critters that want my blood, I'm just afraid that those area's will be so few and far between.
Can you imagine in 20-30 years relic hunters will be waiting for old buildings to be torn down to get a chance to dig some relics. I guess I'm sweating it too much...

If you ever get down to Petersburg area maybe we can hook up sometime, I normally drive up on Saturdays. I won't be able to the next month or so since my Ship (USS Tortuga) is currently in the Gulf of Mexico assisting in the rescue efforts.
