Friday's hunting...

I spent about 8 hours at a site that date's back to 1840. I am searching what used to be a garden some 30 odd years ago. A lady lost her diamond ring there and no one has ever found it. I am trying.

This is the result of searching about 1/3, or 1000 sq ft of the area with the SovGT and digging everything that sounded like it might be something... there are three pics. One with everything, one with a few things I liked and one with just the trash...

Just the trash:[attachment 24583 P4160160512x384.jpg]

A few interesting things, one minnie:[attachment 24584 P4160153512x384.jpg]

In the third pic is this: [attachment 24585 P4160171512x384.jpg][attachment 24586 P4160169512x384.jpg][attachment 24587 P4160168512x384.jpg]
Any idea what it might be? It seem's to be brass, is about 5" long and has a slot in the side that has been mashed a little.

Thanks for post. I know your working hard because of all the j u n k you've dug. Whats the going ratio on pop tops an tails?? The tube like thing is interesting. I have seen candle holders mounted on a base with a slide and button to push candle up. But seems a little small for that. Keep working it - show us some more. Good luck for some good finds HH Don

I think that 5" thing is an old candlestick. Originally it would have a lever and spring on the side to raise the candle so you could raise it as the candle burned low and burn it all the way down.

What do you think? Any wax on it?

well it has been identified by TR on another board as a parasol handle. He said they find them in Confederate cavalry camps out in Texas... pretty cool I thought. I had no idea what it was.

I don't know about the ratio but I do know that there is a LOT of little pieces of aluminum trash there... an at a lot of other places. If someone could design a detector that could disc out aluminum what a boon that would be... I'd be all over that!

[attachment 24792 CandleHolder.jpg]It does indeed seem to be a candlestick holder. Minus the base. Someone posted a pic of it somewhere, or one almost like it. It is from the early part of the 19th century...
