Friday Park Hunt, silver and lead

Howdy all. Friday was a little chilly here in Mid-Missouri, but my two pals and I decided to scratch the nagging "go detecting" itch. Matt and I met up and hit an old park that is now in a very bad neighborhood. We're talking frequent shootings, drug deals, and 'ho activities (with 'ho tendencies). I would never hunt it alone. And, as luck would have it, I totally forgot my diamondback DB9 in the nightstand at home. Oh well, slim chances that two goofy-looking metal detectorists will get hassled. Fortunately, we were left alone. I pulled three wheats and two silver dimes out of there, a worn 1943 Merc and a 1952-D Roosevelt. Matt got a bag full of clad, probably enough for a steak dinner... or a crack rock.

After a few hours of pushing our luck, we headed over to another park and met up with our other pal. This other park is on the fringes of bad neighborhoods, but you don't feel like you have to watch over your shoulder the whole time. We think that part of this park was a Yankee shooting range back in the Civil War because we find a lot of shot Union bullets here. On this trip, I pulled 12 from the dirt including a William's Cleaner, a .54 carbine, and a lot of .69's. My pals also got a handful of bullets each.

I did find something neat at the park. It is brass, thin and in the shape of a shield. It has "USA" stamped on the top, and in the center it has the symbol of the US Army Air Corps, from World War 2 or earlier. I am not sure what it is, maybe a tag or badge? Any help from y'all out there?

Pictured below are the finds. No video today; didn't want to display to the neighborhood that I was packing a smart phone.

Good stuff Bryan. Do you need me to come watch your back?

As long as you're packing! MO recognizes Arkansas CCW permits. Sometimes the best stuff is buried in the ghetto.
