Ken in Georgia

New member
Found first Silver 1908 Barber Dime and 1918 Buffalo Nickel. And some others coins still cleaning, But they were found using the 11 inch coil and 85 Sen. Disc at 40. 7 inches on the dime BTW!!!

Awesome finds Ken!!!!! A Barber dime would under the coil is on my wish list. Congrats on some good hunting!

First with this detector, and hit soft, it was on its was on it's side.

Way to go man. You have to love a detector that rounds up the old, deep silver and still manages to snag the nickels. Thanks for sharing.

Nice finds Ken. Why sens at only 85? I have yet to find a place where I cannot run mine all the way up to 99. Was EMI there a problem or did it become unstable? Bill

That dime should have VDI of 80 - 84 depending how it was laying in the ground at 7", if it was on edge, I would say 80 - 81.

Well it VDI at 82-83 !!! thanks to all, now i run the sens a little lower to adjust the size of the target to be detected. I hate digging the end of your finger nail size target !!!!

Why do coins sitting under the ground become ground flat ?
Nice finds none the less.

Not sure I understand the question !

I have seen some coins come out of the ground looking brand new....
But I have also seen a few coins come out like somebody sanded them with a sanding disk..
One of my oldest coins is the only indian head penny I found next to a building that was removed when hey widened the street.
It was as best I can tell under the removed sidewalk. one side though was fine unfortunately the other side was ground so flat you could not tell it was a penny.
So what causes coins in the ground to become ground flat.

Sidewalks move due to the weather aka hot and cold and people walking will have pressure up and down. this will sand down and coin.
