Friday Goodies...

I had a little over an hour of free time before I had to go to work Friday, so I hit up a park in town. I originally started out in the woods, but after 15 minutes of being eaten alive by mosquitoes, I decided to head out into one of the soccer fields. I never even made it to the field. I was in an area bordering the field, and I could tell it had not been levelled, like the fields had been. Ok, original old surface. I wasn't really expecting anything except some modern clad and a few pieces of junk.

Suddenly, out of the blue, I get a deep Nickel hit, at about 5". I figured it's just a beavertail around 3", as I tend to dig a lot of those. I cut a plug, flipped it over, and what do my wondering eyes see, but the imprint of a Nickel in the dirt at the bottom of the plug! I looked into the hole, and could see the edge of a Nickel. I brushed a little clod of dirt off the Nickel, and was really surprised when I saw an Indian staring back at me! Here's the pic:

Man, what a rush! That's my first Buffalo this year.

I decided to go back to my van, put on my 10.5" coil, and do a slow, thorough grid-search of the area. Wouldn't you believe it, but about 15 minutes later, I got another 5" Nickel hit about 10' away from the Buff? I cut a plug, flipped it over, and there, in the bottom of the hole, is this:

Hot Dog! Double Buffaloes today! What's better, is both of them are fairly early dates, and they had to have been dropped either in the teens or twenties, as the dates are still readable. Heck, the '19 still has some Mint Luster on the coin, even though it's discolored! Both coins were in the ground "tail's-up", so the reverses are a little hit, but the obverse is nice.

I thought I was going to get a deep IH, from about 6", but that target ended up being a small brass religious pendant at around 4 - 5", probably from the same time period as when the Buff's were dropped. I'll have to pay more attention to that spot.

Note: the picture(s) might not show up due to bandwidth limitations. If the picture(s) are not there, check back at a later time.

Nice finds. I don't know how you found those nickles with the 3D as everyone is saying it don't read nickles right. keep diggin' Jim

that what we are looking for !! that how the 3d is suppose to work , probably hit as high tone right ?

And they both hit solid Nickel. No Foil bounces at all. I did go back today, but it was pretty bleak. Nothing older or deep.
