I went back to the spot I've been hitting since last week. A couple days ago, I managed to pull a Catholic crucifix on a chain. I think it's silver, but it's not marked, and it tarnished a bit. I haven't been able to clean it up good, yet. Maybe once I get an electrolysis unit again (I managed to fry the other one).

Anyway, I managed to pull up three Wheat's that day, and four Wheat's yesterday. Today, I continued working a grid pattern that I'd started. Shortly after starting, I got yet another Wheat, a '57D, and it's been gold-plated. I've found a silver-plated Wheat before, and I've heard it was quite a common experiment in HS way-back-when. A few minutes after getting that Wheat, I recovered a 1917 Wheat, and as worn as it is, was probably dropped when most of the rest were.

A little while later, I got a sweet 4-way High Coin hit from an indicated 6" down. I opened a plug, and started removing all the loose dirt and scanning that. I finally got down to a harder layer of dirt, and still hadn't recovered my target. I scanned the hole with my vibraprobe, and nothing. I started popping out divots of dirt from the bottom, and removed the loose dirt. Suddenly, I saw my target, a small silver reeded edge encased in a small clod of dirt. All right! Here it is:

I filled the hole, stood up, and scanned the plug, just in case. No signal, but then, I wasn't really expecting one. I continued that swing, to the left, reached the end, and shifted my weight forward a couple inches. I then started another swing from left-to-right, slowly, listening hard for other soft, deep, signals. I reached the extent of my swing to the right, and again shifted my weight forward a couple inches, then started a right-to-left swing. <ping> I immediately did an "X" style pinpoint, and realized I had a piece of iron a few inches away. I started to walk away from it, then realized that the High Coin hit was a little to far from the iron hit to be an Iron offset false. I pinpointed to get a depth reading, and it came up at an indicated 6". Hmmmm, same depth of the silver roosie that I recovered just a couple feet away. I started "milking" the target, very slowly swinging over it in an "X" pinpoint, and actually got it to repeat 4-ways. I dropped down, opened a plug, and recovered this:

All Right! Silver #34!

Keep working the area...has to be a few more silvers hiding..Doesn't appear real old silver, but silver is silver...As far as the religious pendant every silver one I ever found was marked..They are made in various metals..One quick rub with a jewelers cloth and its quite evident silver or not...
