I had a little over an hour today before work, so I headed off to the park I've been hitting off-and-on the past several months. I started at a spot I knew was a picnic ground, but was hoping that it was old enough to hide some older coins. As soon as I crossed into the grass, next to the parking area, I ground-balanced and started searching, working "the outskirts". Sure enough, within 15 minutes, I had pulled up 3 Wheat's. About that time, the cloud cover moved off, and I was exposed to just enough sunlight to make it kind of uncomfortable. I headed off underneath the trees, into some shade. I knew that this was a trashy, trashy, spot, but I was intent on hunting slow, low, and primed for some deep targets. I wasn't there very long, when I got a nice high tone at an indicated 4". When I cut a plug, the target was in the hole. I scooped out all the loose dirt, and the target was still in the hole. I activated my Vibraprobe, scanned, and got a hit at 6 o'clock in the hole, and when I removed the probe, I could see a silver ring-shape in the hole. I picked it up, and realized I had a silver dime, the "ring" I had seen was the rim, with the face covered in dirt. I shook off what dirt I could, and revealed this:

Nice! My third Merc' this year! And, it's in almost mint condition!
I ended up recovered two more Wheat's, for a total of five. They are dated '34, '36, '41, '42, and '44D. That's the third or fourth '34 Wheat I've recovered in the past week. Go figure? Here's the Wheat's:
