Friday Buffalos and a 7 Silver Saturday

floodplaindetector

Well-known member
Saturday I got up early, went for a drive and hit some pounded out old parks.
Once I got to my short list of 1900- parks I quickly researched the day before, I realized I had been to them a few years ago with a detecting buddy.
It was kind of slow going most of the day with a couple silver and a few wheat pennies coming the first handful of hours. I was somewhat disappointed I couldn't hit a deep Indian penny.
The 4 deep mercury dimes I ran into later in the day made the day fun. 2 of the dimes read exactly 10 inches on the depth meter and the last dime (1934) was right at 11 inches.
The NEL thunder coil was my coil again. I run it without a coil cover and can swing it all day without weight issues.

The buffalo's came very close to home on Friday. The 1917 d is a better year.
I am unsure what that KG 21 item is.

Silver dimes are 1934,1936,1937,1940,1946,1958,1963
Nickels are 1917d,1919,1925,1958.
Wheat pennies are 1920,1936,1937,1939,1946,1948,1949.1950,1952,1957

a special thanks to my wife Terri again for cleaning my finds. She does much better than me:clapping:

Awsome day Floodplain! That 17d Buff cleaned up nice.
Curious about you not running a coil cover.. Trying to keep it light or reaching for more depth?

Bryan

Thanks for the comment Bryan.
Yes to both. I tore my labrum years ago from sandbagging and have had some reoccurring arm/nerve issues since then. My arm is good so far this year with the Thunder coil.
I am running without the cover to lighten the coil as it slows me down when I have to use a detecting harness. I figure if I wear it out a little sooner so be it.
I get the most enjoyment out of detecting from chasing the deep faint signals that turn out to be old coins. Without the coil cover the NEL Thunder coil is very smooth and has round edges so
it moves across the grass very well.
By the way in all my almost 10 years of detecting with the Etrac I have never tried 2 tone ferrous and have kept my settings very similar and
just tried to get in tune to the all of the audio information which is the strength of the Etrac.

Seems like we like the same kind of signals! :beers:

I'm lucky to have a local park that keeps on giving - and there's more in the area with those deep, faint signals that have been missed over the years! Love your posts!

Nice looking pics FPD! You find some great shape nickels. My wife enjoys seeing what I dig but won't clean any of them.

Congrats on the great finds !

Great finds. I cannot seem to get my Thunder coil off my detector. Does it seem to bring out strong audio and VDI readings that the other coils including the Tornado cannot at 8 inch depth? Just my opinion. I am not talking faint signals but solid signals at 7-8 inches. Also, try the TTF with the tornado coil. U will be impressed. It somehow works magic with that coil that has not worked on other coils. Take the NC to 1 and use a more open screen like Go4hevers. Try it on a place U just pounded and let us know if U see the same results I do.If the NC 1 results in emi just change to 2 and it seems to go away. THis is running in auto +3 not manual.

Hi nalc472,
I assume you mean the Thunder coil ?
yes, it seems to hit very hard on the 8 inch coins and I seem to be getting more silver on edge.
Regarding TTF, are you seeing more depth or just better on targets next to the iron. I will have to experiment with that setup.
thanks,
Dave

Wow, the way Buffalo Nickels wear dates so fast that 1917 must have been lost a week after it was minted. I have never seen such a great date mark on such an old buff.....That is a sure keeper.
