Friday at the Beach

Well-known member
I had an appointment with my hand Surgeon to get the stitches taken out from where he had released a trigger finger. Got back home and checked the weather. Weather Guessers said that the temps would be in the upper 60's (Yippee) and the winds would be from the SSE at 8mph. So I grabbed my gear and headed for the beach. As I dressed I wondered if I might be putting on too many clothes for the forecast weather.

I arrived at the Beach just before completely low tide. That was at least an hour later than I wanted to be there. So I immediately hit an area that the tides had washed away all the loose sand. Nothing showed. So I tried another area and then another area with the same results. Worked an area up near the dunes for a few minutes that showed some erosion and still nothing.

I stood looking at the beach and wondered where would I be if I were a gold ring. So back to the washed area and in a couple of minutes I had that gold growl that my EXcal gives on small 10k gold. Dug it and low and behold there is yellow in the scoop. Went on to spend quite a bit of time on the beach. At one point I had to go to the vehicle and retrieve my wool shirt.

The Weather Guessers missed it badly. High for the day at the beach was 56 not upper 60's. Winds were out of the NNE not the SSE and they were blowing at about 15 kts with gust of 20 to 25kts. Yes I got cold.

Finished the day with the small 10k half gram ring, one silver toe ring, one junk ear ring and $3.95 in Clad. Any day that I find gold and silver is a good day.

Awesome! "I stood looking at the beach and wondered where I'd be if I was a gold ring" :clapping::rofl: Beautiful description of the thought process a guy needs to develop! "Theres gotta be a pony in here somewhere" and Clive's "Deepest water, closest to shore" and other mutterances of a gold hunter!

It really is a thinking game aint it? You really got a trophy to reward you with the proper mental assessment of the situation. "Weather guessers"!

Good work Geo!
Mud

Nice finds george . Thats one fine thin ring there.. good to hear your thumb is healing.. ive been dealing with tendonitis in both elbows for the last month so even when I have an oppertunity to hunt im reluctant to go for fear of doing more damage..you are doing very well with that excal . Congrats.

Great finds GeorgeinSC!!! a pretty little gold heart ring!!!

Mud....I usually lick my finger (NOT my middle finger)!!!!and stick it upright in the air to see where the wind is coming and then make a judgement as to where the gold rings are:stars: Just kidding!!!!!!
I look for cuts and sand displacement if there is any!!!! We don't get the storms here in SoCal like the Eastern Seaboard so the beach's don't typically change their features much. Most of the time, the only time the beach 'changes' is when the beach cleaning machines scrape and sift the sand mixed with junk i.e. beer cans and bottles, diapers...yuk! and a bazillion other assorted foreign objects!!
At this time of the year, because it's still cool temps and few beach-goers are getting into the water, I look for fresh drops, especially around the beach volleyball courts. Most everywhere else has been detected many times over and the old adage kicks in "Gold is where you find it"!!!!

Hi G in SC, What detector was you useing? That is a small ring, i just a Whites 300 ID, havent got to go yet but hope it get small rings. That is a nice find. Flintstone

The 300 will pick up the backs of earings it's so sensitive........no problem with small rings.

Well done on the finds George, like you say, finding gold always makes for an excellent day.

Nice finds George, congrats on the gold ring. I had a friend that used to hold up a crystal on a string to decide where to hunt, but... maybe I shouldn't give away top tips like that.....

Booty I have had tendonitis in both elbows. I had steroid injections and that took care of the problem. However be forewarned they put a lot of medication into a very small tight spot and when the numbing material dies off it hurts like Hades. But the end result was no more pain in the elbows.

Flint I use the Minelab Excalibur II 1000 at the beach. Bought it last August and so far it has rewarded me nicely. Between the Clad and precious metals that I have found it has about 3/4th of the way paid for itself.

That's Some GOOD REASONING!! Les Robinson.
