Freshly Disced Field

I went out to my bean field and it has all been disced today. Please tell me that will mess with the detecting some. I was able to find a 1917 D Wheat penny but it was only about an inch deep. It just seemed to me the deeper targets were not there. It's kind of like they disappeared. On a positive note I think I figured out where the school set. I came across some larger stone and porcelain shards in this one area. :detecting:

Good news, bad news. Some deeper targets are now near the top and the targets that were on top are now deeper. Hunting conditions will constantly change as the dirt settles so keep hunting buddy. The worst news is that the Explores don't like much air between the coil and target so as the dirt settles, you should get deeper targets.

Larry is right, loose dirt really messes with the signal depth. As the soil settles things will improve. Its a good chance the pottery shards are from the schools trash dump site. The buildings are usually within 50 yards or so of the trash or on the highest area close to the trash. Hunt for a heavily nail infested area and that is where a building probably sat.

Thanks for the help guy's I appreciate it. I'm going to wait until sometime next week to hunt it again. We are supposed to get some rain the first part of next week. That should help settle things back out some. Time to see if I can find some more fields in the meantime.

At least you weren't skunked. Nothing wrong with finding a wheat cent in my opinion. There's more to be found there and good luck!

Looks like its time to find a different field until the dirt settles in that one. You can pick off the targets close to the surface but deeper ones will be missed due to the air pockets in the soil giving your detector less depth.
