Frequency Shifting T2

Hello. I have had my T2 for only a couple weeks and have been out about 5 times with it.. This is my first detector and I'm still trying to figure it out!
I was curious if when you are getting a lot of chatter and you shift down the frequency to an F3 or less will this make a big difference with your depth readings?
Also just wondering what range old coins would fall into, say around 1900's or earlier? So far I've been finding a lot of recent coins, 1980s and up. I did find one '56 wheat but that's been the oldest.
Anyhow thanks for the info!

The frequency shouldnt matter unless you are around power lines or other detectors. All the old coins I find are in the 70's and up to 90 with the large coppers. I would turn down your sens a little if you are getting to much chatter or raise your disc up to about 15 if you are getting a lot of iron readings. WOW T2 is your first machine! Noting like learning with the best!

the old coins will be basically the same reading as the same type of new ones. nickles will be around 58 and older ones may be a little lower. idian heads should read about like a new zinc penny. depth cause the numbers to be a little lower.

This is your first detector. You will not get a better one !! Use 60 sens 10 dic and 2+ at least to start with .Use the ground cancel mode if chatter is a problem,it may be ground effect. Push the trigger forward and raise & lower the coil from 8 inches above ground to ground level keep doing that until the sound is the same. Then off you go. TAKE IT SLOW over the ground do not rush things keep the coil ON the ground not above it. You will find much more. Some detectorist appear to be searching for low flying aircraft in their search modes !!

the secret to finding old coins is ....................location, location, location! do your research in your area and find the old spots and you will start finding the old coins......buy the books that the local historical societies publish and they are a wealth of info in there.....also, join one and talk to the old timers and ask them........good luck......

Thanks everyone for your help.. I have been doing some research at the library on local parks in my area and the Internet of course. I have found one park near me that dates back to the mid 1800's along with old time pictures for reference ca 1900's. But, unfortunately I'm still finding a lot of crap. I think my biggest problem when searching is that I'm getting so many different signals that I am confused! Sometimes in one pass of my detector I might pick up 5 or 6 readings with my id numbers bouncing all over the place.. Are they ghosts or just a lot of junk or one good hit in with the junk, I'm pulling my hair out! How do you know what to listen for in all the noise? I took my brother out yesterday and today, but we didn't find anything good. At least we are having fun and today was really nice, it got up to 44 degrees (heat wave!) Oh.. also when detecting I have been using sins 85, disc 35, tone 2+ and sens 70, disc 50 and tone 4. Like I said before I have been finding recent coins but when I get into trashing areas especially at the parks its almost a lost cause at this point and time.. Anyhow I'll keep on! So talk with you guys later! Thanks...

Just my opinion, but I think you should start out using much higher discrimination, 75 or even 80. You won't find any gold or nickels at 75 but most all solid repeatable signals will be coins. I prefer 3 tones myself. You will learn what coins sound like and you won't get discouraged. Low discrimination settings are for finding relics and gold. Frequency settings won't have a real effect on depth. Swing slow with a narrow sweep. Spent some time getting use to that and later you can start experimenting with other settings.

Take care, Dave
