Frequency of finds vs. Slow Economy.....

Just wanted to pose a question to the folks on here.....Do you find that your finds are fewer this year? In other words are you noticing a lower quantity of common coin and jewelry finds? How about gold finds say compared to the last few years?....It's a big discussion topic amongst us beach/surf hunters here at the Jersey shore....and finally...if you do notice a slow down....do you blame it entirely on the slow economy?....thanks in advance for your input....HH....Brian

Maybe the same amount of rings lost ,Just more pirates on the beach and in the water now. we have to share. In the 70's a five ring day could be said to be common. I have been on the beach in Daytona and Clearwater back then and have the place all to myself no matter what time of day. Just my take, but still plenty if you put in the time. Do reserch and find new places. HH

i think less money is been lost as i noticed on a recent trip no one seems to be having fun partying on the beach - not many people were using the pedlows, i also think that the slowing of holiday makers has to have a proportional drop in gold losses.

Just seems this year with the cool weather it has taken longer for the targets to pick up....on the beachs i have hunted
compared to last year, looking at who is in the water is mostly younger people? Up north...Florida all ages,,,,the Economy, yes..
there are vacancy signs everywhere.and they are lowering the prices to draw people in......Has it affected my finds compared to last
few years
Still finding Gold n silver....But not the Nitro Stuff........
Nothing to show for Florida yet.....too much thunder the last few days
last day friday, naples pier...hunting with a master hunter junklord...if he can't find it.....things are Bad,,,,,,,,,,,,,Obn

I've done the same spots as previous years and conclude fewer coins per hunt dry sanding..

just my guess but I think alot of gold and other jewlery is being lost to pawn shops and buyers of old gold.plus as stated people just not getting out as often as before. When I lived in Fl. I would hit the beaches and don't remember ever coming home skunked .alcohol+ tourist= falling down gold droppers

I'm not finding as much the last few years either. I often wonder if it is due to the fact that most hotels now provide safes in the rooms. Before you had to take a chance on losing valuables at the beach or leaving it in a hotel room which are notorious for theft.

the past couple of yearsI hunt an area loaded with people that wear their bling this year tho no bling i think they all scrapped if due to economy

People are wearing less AND the GD weather only started the summer a couple a weeks ago. Nuff Said!! :beers:

Hey Brian, I have not only seen a downturn in lost gold/silver, but 10K is becoming most prevalent, whereas 14K USED to be the most common karat weight.

Here on the Southeastern Connecticut shore the weather has only recently allowed swimmers to enter the cold water!

When the air on the beach doesn't get above seventy during the day there are a lot of people at the beach, but only a rare, hardy soul will venture into the wet.

For a bit over a week now I have seen more swimmers, but they are still mostly youngsters.

I'm a west coast beach hunter, we have a ton of local people visiting the beach every day and don't need tourists to replenish the loot. My wife and I have only been at it 2 years and I blown away by what we come home with EVERY time we go.

I'm at about the same place as far as gold finds but the coin count is way down,Is it due to the Economy?I think to a degree yes but I'm
finding a few others are hitting the schools/parks and beachs more then last year with the price of detectors going down and the price of gold going up
I think more people are using detectors now so i try to keep my spots to myself with the exception of a few friend that i go with we
all will tell what we have found but not aways were we find it:biggrin: we all know where each other hunts for the most part but we don't
detect other friends spot unless we are invited to go with them. Yes i could go hunt there spots and i might find some loot but we have
alot of water in this state and alot of beachs that are under searched we might walk 1/2 to 1 mile of shoreline to find someplace no ones hit
then we hit it hard for till the finds say we are wasting time due to lack of find, but if you research your spots you might find an old swimming hole thats
UNTOUCHED:biggrin::thumbup: so keep at it and the gold will come

Its a combo. of everything all has said but the big one here at the Jersey shore is the tides d the lack of storms. The Jersey shore (the surfer's say this past winter)was called lake Atlantic. People are dropping all kinds of things on the beaches and the sand just keeps burying very quickley. I have been a beach hound since the early 90s and I have never seen a the Atlantic wave action as calm as I have seen it this past year. Just my 2 cents

Will get um just have to take our time and go slow out there

I have an idea.We all need to get together with Obama and have a beer.Joe Biden will tell us what we are all doing wrong and if Nancy Pelosi shows up she will tell us where Barny Franks and Timothy Geithner hid the gold.If that dont work we can always blame it on Bush.

Here something that I notice. More people are carrying a debt card. It is becoming wide spread. Every place I now go will take the card now. At one of my local beaches, The restaurant on the beach has put donation jars on both sides of every cash register. I have never seen this before. Now a lot of the change never makes it back to the beach. Say there is five registers, that makes ten jars. Each one was half full, you can imagine how much money is not being lost on the beach. As far as the good stuff.....early bird gets the worm! HH
