Frequency confusion

j.l

Member
I am confused about the frequencies
Does the Equinox transmit 5 frequencies
Or 1 at a time? Is it like the Sovereign BBS
Or Etrac FBS?

j.l -- the Equinox transmits "multiple" frequencies, SIMULTANEOUSLY, and extracts target tone/digital ID information through the COMBINATION of those multiple frequency transmissions. Whether the EQX transmits ALL 5 frequencies, in all of the different modes (Park modes, Field modes, etc.) is of course a proprietary secret that Minelab won't reveal (any more than they revealed exactly how many frequencies were actually transmitted at once, with FBS or BBS.

WITH THAT SAID, you can of course run the Equinox in "single frequency" mode as well, by switching out of "Multi," and choosing any one of the single frequencies individually. But, as far as when running in "Multi IQ," yes, it transmits more than one frequency "simultaneously."

Hope that helps,

Steve

Well explained Steve, as always! Let me also say that using Multi is all I do, the signal extracted and reported has gone through more “sieves” than if it were only set to a single frequency, and this has always resulted in more accurate target ID regarding coins for me and everyone I know. BBS,FBS,FBS2 and now Multi IQ have proven themselves after millions of targets....the ACCURACY is second to none. And I mean NONE!:)

I'm pretty sure all the FBS machines just transmit two frequencies, both square waves. One frequency gets changed a small amount when you do a noise cancel. The ?? number of frequencies Minelab talks about has to do with math on the receive side circuitry, Not sure about the NOX. If I remember correctly I read in some Minelab patents years ago that the actual number of frequencies analyzed depended somewhat on what noise cancel frequency you were running; frequencies that landed on or near harmonics of 50 or 60 hz power lines were ignored because they would be too noisy.

I have an oscilloscope three feet to my left. I'll get ambitious some day and post some screen shots for both machines.
