Frequency Adjust question????

I have had a bit of chatter from my ATP. Until today I didn't know it was more than Normal, I was with another ATP used today. I used the frequency adjust and the chatter was reduced quite a bit. He didn't have the problem. He has never used the frequency adjust. I didn't think to see what frequency he was using, tomorrow I will.

My big question. When you reset the ATP back to factory settings, does the frequency adjust reset as well?

Hi,, yes everything returns back to factory settings.....Was you both using the same size coils?? Were you both using the same settings? Did you both have fresh batteries? Is one machine hotter than the other depth wise? These are some things you might want to check out and why you might of had more chatter.....JJ

Same thing all around I believe. Coil size, Pro zero, Max sensitivity. Both of us finding targets, just as deep I believe. I just had a bit more chatter then I changed the frequency and most chatter disappeared. He said he had never changed the frequency, but when I reset the machine it still chattered until I adjusted the frequency. Still some chatter, but not nearly as much.

I was told by some one at Garrett,, that they try to get all the units at the same freq. but it don't always happen, do to the parts,
like you both could be in the same F-3 and they would not check out the same,at the freq. on the scope.....
Both of my AT Pro's, after a factory re-set, the freq. is F-3...

I tried changing my frequency yesterday and it didn't make any difference. I had already ground balance several times, but I lowered the sensitivity 1 point and ground balance again and it took away the problem. I notice I have to ground balance more in the water than the land.

I haven't used the frequency adjust but two or three times. Think I'll go out and try the frequencies. If I get quieter operation, great.

Oddly, I went to hunt today and was having the chatter problem again. I tried ground balancing and then went through all the frequencies, but it didn't help. So, I held the power button and reset to factory settings. That didn't help until I reground balanced. Started to chatter and suddenly quit, and didn't chatter again for the rest of the 1 and a half hour hunt.

Dont forget that the Frequency adjust is used to minimise the interference from other detectors and electrical interference like power lines.

Could be a coil problem - I recently sent my ATP in for unrelated repairs and it came back with a new coil. There have been a few scattered issues with them - just something to keep in mind. If you continue to have issues, give Garrett a call, they'll take good care of you!

When the chatter began, day before yesterday I was within a quarter mile of some very tall and large electrical lines. The other guys ATP was quiet, but I thought maybe mine was on a different frequency, so I tried changing it. Chatter went down a little.

Yesterday I started out with a lot of chatter. I tried ground balancing, then frequency adjust, no good. So I tried tightening the coil connection, it was tight, and noticed the coil cable was tight but there was a couple loops wrapped around on top of the coil and I moved it up until it was near the control box instead. Couldn't get the shaft lock pin to work, to twist the loops out. That didn't seem to help so I did a reset. When I started it chattered for a few seconds and then went quiet. I thought I had accidentally turned it off, but hadn't. It worked perfectly after that. And, I am STILL confused as to what I did to fix the chatter.
