JUST PICKED UP A PRISTINE FREEDOM 3 PLUS WITH THE CROSSFIRE COIL.............I WAS BEGINNING TO THINK THEY DID NOT EXIST ANY LONGER...........A LOT OF CDCs.........BUT NEVER A 3+ FOR SALE........danGeorge
 
I have the Freedom III Coin Commander that I won a speed hunt contest with many years ago. What's the difference in them? Thanks.
 
HONESTLY........I DON'T KNOW........I HAVE ALL THE CATALOGS FROM WHEN THEY WERE PRODUCED BY GARRETT AND IT'S NOT CLEAR............ABOUT $50 BUCKS MORE...........THE CATALOG STATES YOU GET GREATER DEPTH ON THE PLUS.................HOWEVER THE KHz ARE THE SAME...............I HAVE AN OLDER CDC..........ON A AIR TEST I GET ABOUT 1 1/2" MORE ON A DIME OVER THE OLDER CDC........THIS ONE HAS A RED LITE THAT FLASHES WHEN YOU GET A SIGNAL..................I JUST DON'T KNOW................danGeorge
 
DanGeorge,that red light(LED) you have was added by Kellyco. I also have the same thing on a Freedom 1 CDC and it was bought from Kellyco. I think it's wired along with the audio. From what I've heard is that the crossfire equipped Freedoms were a little deeper and operated at a little higher frequency than 5.5 khz. I'm thinking around 6 khz. The only bad thing I can think of is that the early crossfire coils used thin mounting ears and moulded connectors. In time both of these could be a negative issue. I should know as I have an original GMH that was made in 1988 and it had the same style crossfire coil. I've since got a newer crossfire coil with thick black coil cord and thicker ears. This was the last style made before the Crossfire II series. The Freedom series are good 'beep and dig' detectors.
