Freedom 3 questions

Good day guys:

I was fortunate and able to pick up 2 Freedom 3's one was new in the box stored in a garage for 20 or so years and the other was hardly used. I ran the Freedom 3 as my first real detector (years ago) and really liked it, so it was a nostalgic thing for me. in my humble opinion, they are comparable to any of the newer ones out today. My question for you old Garrett users is this: What is the difference between the 3 and the 2? I know the 2 has ground balance where the 3 doesn't. Does the Freedom 2 have an advantage in depth over the 3. Just curious because I haven't used the 2.

Thanks for the responses in advance.

Must be different machines than the Freedom II and Freedom III I know about. The Freedom II had dual discriminate much like the Fisher 1266 while the Freedom III that I have has notch discrimination. The Freedom III is a good detector, but I can tell the improvement of the Ace over it, especially on depth detection on NICKELS. I won a speed competition hunt back in the late 80's with the Freedom III. I finished the THIRD hunt field while the other competitors were still in the FIRST hunt field. Many felt there was something funny going on and the huntmaster was asked if my finds were correct according to the rules and he verified they were. Many were still using their pinpoint features, but I could sweep once or twice after locating my target and hit the target right on the head by "freezing" my eyes on the spot where the beep occured. I still do it today with the Ace. So much for Garretts being "slow" detectors!
