I like the idea of the probe up by the arm rest. Does it inter fear with swinging the detector at all? How does it handle? Seem Solid to you? I had to send my XS2 off to have the probe mounted. Did you mount your probe or did Doc do it? Other than that I think it looks pretty cool!!! You have had alot of time on your hands this winter haven't you charles hehe :)

I like the probe mounted as far back under my arm as possible for improved balance. I "really" dislike it mounted up in front of the control box. Its out of the way there, but makes the already nose heavy Explorer even more so. When I make a custom coil for this detector I'll relocate the X1 switch box back under my arm also. Every ounce of weight you can relocate under your arm helps.

Does it seem solid...yep its solid, I'll be in the surf with this rig this summer.

Well with that said I guess your saying it's completely water proof then right or wrong? With your ver or rig can it be made to where the carbon fiber lowers can be used? As I have all my coils setup with there own lower rod for easy and quick changes.

Yes its waterproof. All the housings are sealed with silicone o-rings and the waterproof connectors are rated IP68.

The Explorer carbon fiber lower rods cannot be used. Two issues, first Minelib spaces the ears on their coils .900 inch apart. Virtually all other manufactures space their coil ears .750 inch apart. So you are limited to Minelab lower rods.

Second, virtualy all detectors including Minelab Sovereigns and Excaliburs have lower rods that measure .750 inch OD and so you can swap lower rods between different S-shafts. Here I have used a very lightweight Whites 3 piece travel shaft with a Sovereign lower rod. But the Explorer lower carbon fiber rods...they are an oddball, they measure .865 inch OD and so they will only fit in an Explorer upper shaft.

Doesn't look freaky to me. It looks like some fantastic craftmanship to me! Very nice!

man is there anything you can't do? I mean modifications are one thing, I've seen hundreds of modifications, but when you do mods, they are really "tight". I mean they are clean, and functional and really look great!

You have a gift! How long have you had this obsession with being a perfectionist. (Sorry that's the psychologist in me talking!) You are a dying breed - someone who actually takes pride in doing a good job!

Way to go!

DOC

man you are obsessed Charles! *L* Does that thing still work after you do all that to it? That is one mean looking Minelab! You did a spectacular job!

Charles, That is one beautiful job. I can't wait to hear how it works in the water. keep us updated.

Figures, I guess that's how they ensure that you use there parts I guess. BTW What would a mod like yours cost????

Now, since I was told that you might have some ideas for a beginner about hunting plowed fields I would appreciate any help that you can give me. You can send me a private email if you want when you have the time. Thanks..........:)
