Fourth gold ring this year..........

Drove to Hot Springs today and checked the lake depths after all this rain.
The water is almost to it's highest point. Lots of debris in the water.

I then went to check out two parks that I haven't metal detected at. The first
one is an old park. I used my Vaquero and found some old pieces of steel
stuff and a few modern coins.

The next one is a baseball park and also has a playground. I decided to use
my Euro Sabre. I dug lots of trash, and some kids jewelry. Found two of
those shinny magnets. Was tired and decided to leave. As I was leaving I
kept swinging my coil. Right out side the tot lot I got a weak signal. It
discriminated like aluminum, but it had a smooth tight sound, so I decided
to dig it. It was this old silver ring at about 6" deep. It has some kind of stone
that looks cracked from being in the ground.

When I got home I look at the ring with a magnifying glass, and to my
surprise it says 14k... Must be white gold....:)

HH,

Hey congratulations on the new ring!!!!

That's a Very Nice ring TD. What type of stone do you think that is ?
I really never heard of having turquoise set in gold before. Maybe it's a Fire Opal ,
Congrats :clapping:

Nice find Tabdog. I was thinking Opal as well. It seems to be more worn than the ring is, so I don't think it's a hard stone. Must be something soft, like Opal. Bring it to a jeweler. It may be save-able if polished up. Either way an excellent find!!!

yes i do. tabdog, great finds there! i've looked long and hard all over this entire forum for a comparable hunter who has the heart, knowledge, and willingness to help others in our great hobby as much as you do, and the inexhaustable energy you devote to your family and hobby. i , gray ghost, do hereby elect tabdog into the finds forums hall of fame! is anybody with me? please let us know!!!! thanks!!!

Hey Tabdog, you can't be speechless. You have to get your speech ready for the induction ceremony!!!!! :biggrin:You've got my vote.

depending on what type of opal (there is rare and common) australia pumps out some of the best in the world ..jump on some aussie opal sites to see what you can find out......and being set in 14k i would imagine they would have stuck some decent opal in it....rare opal can go for more than a diamond but it has to be rare...

opals with dominating colors of yellow, orange ,red or brown are generally classified as black opal which if my memory serves me correctly is your more expensive
