Four 60s pennies and sterling ring!

Went to University with my 5” coil on the F5. Intent was to get up close as possible to chain link fence around the faculty tennis court on the Ad Bldg lawn. I hit a jillion pieces of can slaw and miscellaneous pulltops off tennis ball cans. Ok, this has get to get better cuz swinging a 5” coil is slow business. But hey, someones gotta do it, right?
I dug four 60’s pennies. No other money found, maybe someone else been fishin before me? Why leave those older pennies when they sound out like dimes? Anyway, last 50’ or so I got a clear quarter reading that kept bouncing to 50cents. Probably another can top. Nope. Says Sterling on back in semi cursive style!!!

Sweet, I'd dig a bunch of can slaw if I thought I'd find a silver ring in the mix. Congrats

Ronstar, as you know I also run the F5 but I've never used a small coil like what you were using here, my question is how deep does that coil go on say a dime?

Im getting dime signals as far as 8” so far. Today was an odd “settings” day as F5 stayed oddly quiet with 90-95 on gain and +8 on threshold. I stopped and went to -8 and no difference. I dug and that was a 1960D penny at 7” and it was rather clear and strong. I was out awhile back with jkline at the ballfields, he had a new smaller coil for his etrac. With mine I was able to get closer to the chain link and thus got 5-6 dimes and a small Catholic pendant that he missed. Im telling you tho that little coil is slow moving and swinging. I only did about two feet out from the fence.

After a bit more reflection........ I bought the 5” because the property I live on originally started as a homestead and 640 acres were granted by Pres Hayes. Its since down to 60 acres for 60 yrs and now 10 with two homes. Its a 110 yr old apple orchard which fed the apple cider vinegar factory turn of the last century. Should be loaded with treasure right?
I have found lots of horse tack, wagon parts, old nuts and bolts, nails, and tons of misc crap. Not one single silver coin or pre wheatie. It was suggested the iron could be masking the silver and a smaller coil could be the ticket to paradise. It does allow me to get closer to fence posts (lots of barbed wire chunks) and back under the over grown and falling down branches. I’ve used it I guess more for relic hunting as it hits better than the 11”DD.
I really need to build a fishing box so I can plant items at various depths so that I know exactly what its telling me.

Nice on the silver ring. Silver of any kind is good.

Love that 5" coil. Have one for all my Fisher and Tek machines. Its a laser in trash. HH jim tn

Update. Went back to tennis courts and worked out about 10’ from the fence, a few quarters and a couple “no cash value” tokens. This time the 11”DD was attached and had to throttle threshold back to 0/+2. I had hit on a rebar marker buried about 8-9” with the 5” but the 11” was barely sounding. Tried messing with the threshold but the 0 setting seemed best. Thinking 5” works better a bit deeper and definitely hit rebar point on.

Just finished soaking and cleaning the coins. One penny turned out to be a 1930D wheat. Always check and never assume what they are!!!
