Found yesterday down amongst some tree roots but...

scratched it somewhere in the process, even though I was being as careful as I could be in the situation.:rage:

Just out of curiosity aside from a saltwater beach, what kind of GB numbers are folks getting on their X50's? Mine seem pretty low.

My 50 usually balances at 6 but sometimes as low as 3 within a 50 mile radius of home. It's from the iron ore in the dirt, but still hits nice on deep targets.
Obviously if I'm hunting the exact same site the next day I don't even check it unless it acts up. I have found a few spot here that the 30 lacked maybe 1" in depth compared to the 50 because the ground was so hot.

Hey Mike,

is a lower GB number on the "50" relative to hotter soil?

in northern california,(gold country) my 50 has GB at 2-4 in most areas I've used it in.

Have you noticed any quirks with the xterra when running such a low Gb reading?

thanks

Dan

I've yet to find any problems with the 50 being able to hunt and still get good depth and over all good performance in my hot dirt arena. 2-4 is pretty hot dirt but as long as you can get it to GB and run stable you are good to go.
My 30 seems to lose about 1" depth when compared to the 50 when I have to set the GB on the 50 at 4-6 but it still hunts o.k. but I know what to expect from it now.
Got a handful for IH cents last week that were all in the 10" range, some of them would hit good on the 30 and some barely gave a tic sound, the 50 hit them all clean though.

Coil comes out soon I am ready to buy one.
nice to know the hot ground is not affecting my 50 much!

thanks for the reply

Dan

Nice find you old beach pirate!

I'm still upset I scratched it, she was under an erroded bank with a tree over the top, and I had to turn the coil vertical to get in under the root ball. The roots kept me far enough away that I couldn't use my Vibraprobe, and I was weaving my plastic shovel down and around the roots. She was deep, I estimate 10-11", and careful as I might try to be, at some point I moved it in the sand, dadburnit! Friday the 13th??????:ranting:

Ain't nothing prettier than lady liberty shining as she comes from the ground. Sitting or standing, I love them all!

In response to your question about GB, I have been able to run mine at 8,9 or 10 most of the time. My soil is considered to be moderately mineralized, with MXT readings in the low to mid 50's. HH Randy
