Please help me identify this. Today was my first day digging and I had a blast!

I placed a Buffalo Nickel that I found today next to the "whatzit" for size reference. Didn't find any markings on the back as well.

Pretty simple to say that I am hooked.

So I did some research today. I think it is an old warden, police, or railroad security badge. I believe it is made of nickel. Similar to what I am attaching. Do you guys have any input?

Ok. I've been researching and decided to clean this thing up a bit. I am beginning to think this is some sort of Military medal. Right under the eagles claw is a number of stars. I can count 11 of them. On the curled up bottom there is an arrow and what looks like a piece of wheat/grass crossed.

The item looks to be lead with a brass or copper front on it.

Please someone help me identify this bugger.

Thanks!

If you google wisconsin conservation warded the site comes up and you can contact them. Heck, they even might have info on that particular badge number!

After a year of searching I've solved this mystery. Last night I was bored and started searching for this thing again. It finally hit me after a search of eagle badges that Fraternal Order of Eagles was one of the relevant web pages. I then just searched up "Fraternal Order of Eagles Badge". More research led me to this badge being early 1900's. I know exactly where I found this item and will go back and see if I can find the center piece.

That looks like it , good luck on finding the center piece. If you find it, post a pic.

Very nice find and kudos to you for your dogged research. Researching finds is part of the fun of detecting. Good luck in your quest to find the center piece. Let us know if you succeed.

You may very well have found an FOE badge but your find is not the same as the pictured one, many differences. The Eagle holds an olive branch in one and arrow in the other as one example.
