Hey folks.
I detected an early 1800's homesite here in north Alabama. Finds were slim, but I did pull this whatzit.
Appears to be made of brass, two leaves, with a square shaped hole at the top. Doesn't look to be broken anywhere, but the area around the hole might have held something else.
Its about 2 inches long and rather thin. Any guesses?

(Thanks in advance)

That's a really neat piece. My guess is that it could be a decorative piece of an old lamp. I have found a few at early 1800s sites that are similar to that, and someone told me that they were copper riveted onto gas or oil hanging lamps. Interesting find to say the least!

Thanks for the welcome! I have been metaldetecting for over 13 years, but have never really done any posting on the Internet. I think I'm gonna like this place!
