Found this yesterday and need ID help

I found this item yesterday while hunting around an old home site dating back to the early 1900's.
Didn't realize it had this design on it until I cleaned it up some.
I'm guessing part of a name tag or some kind of ID tag.
Any ideas? It measures 2" x 1" and is made of brass.

Could have gone onto an old mail box, or fallen off an old carriers bag. Just a thought!! Not really sure.
