I was out metal detecting a week ago at a river when I dug up this rock. Its got some kind of metal in it but its non-ferrous (a magnet wont stick to it). What the heck is it? Any ideas?

Does a pinpointer probe go off when you use it on the rock ? I found a rock or should I say a small silver dollar sized, oval shaped stone it turned out to be graphite, gave off a good signal. Did you try a really powerful magnet? I know the rock isn't graphite, could be a hot rock which has different metal elements in it. Hot rock is just a generic term, I don't know much more than that. Hopefully someone with a little more knowledge of rocks can I.D. it for you. Goodluck!!!

Update so I guess the rock or whatever it is, is actually magnetic. I stuck a little neodymium magnet i had to it and it sure enough stuck. Yes my pin pointer does pick it up. Thinking it might be Tuff rock or a meteorite. Any suggestions on what to do next?

Iron and nickel are the major components of a lot of meteorites. If your machines reading is correct you may have a great find...
