Found this old unknown coin

I found this old unknown coin yesterday. I think it is an ancient Roman coin. It is about the size of a US dime. I found it in Corvallis, OR. I think one of the most fun things about metal detecting is that you never know what you might find.

I feel bad to potentially burst your bubble, but I think it's a 20th century re-strike.

I remember back in the late 1960's my dad had several little legal envelope sized flyers he got at work from IBM for copiers with re-strikes of ancient coins attached. Looked like what you pictured here.

Also, finding a copy made as an advertisement would be a lot more logical than finding an ancient coin in this condition in Oregon.

Sorry to say, I think marcomo may be right.

I found one very similar, a year or two ago.

The one I found, appeared to be a copper or brass alloy. The figure seemed to be a nobleman, no helmet, appeared to be a crown. A sailing ship was on the back. I was pretty excited, until I took a closer look.

Still, a pretty cool find!!

Yeah, I agree with the others.

It's made of what in the trade is called 'white metal'...typical of repro coins.
There's a huge market for inexpensive jewelry made from them.

Found a few myself over the years.

It's still a fun find.

Yes, I found out today that it is reproduction of an ancient Roman coin. It was exciting for a while anyway.

Maybe not as valuable, but still a good find.

You said it well, one of the most fun things about metal detecting is you never know what you might find.

Don't be too disappointed. It is still a really neat find, and it proves that if there was a real coin at that spot you would have found it!!!

We have a local county park where they occasionally have renaissance festivals. We find those and similar ones there all the time. Must be a renaissance fair thing. Still very exciting to find!
