Found this old unknown coin with my Tesoro Outlaw

JEF

troll
Found this old coin yesterday. I think it is an ancient Roman coin. It is about the size of a US dime. I found it in Corvallis, OR. I was using my Tesoro Outlaw with the 5.75" coil. I might not have even dug it with a screen ID machine. After I got home I checked it with my MXT PRO, and it came in with a VDI no. of 52, and said it was a screwcap.

I don't know what it is either, but man it looks like a keeper and is in really good condition. Somebody out there will know what it is.

Really nice find,

Ron in WV

Something about it just does not look right,if i am honest i dont think it is the real deal,of course i could well be wrong, but its not like any of the roman coins that i have ever found, what is it doing across the pond that must be the biggest question ?? its far too bright and sharp for a coin that has been the ground for nearly 2000 years.

Its a very unusual find, infact i am not sure what else i can say about it really,i find roman all the time but never one like that, lets hope its a scare unseen coin.

coin from about 100 BC, It doesn't have any replica stamps on it so it looks real to me. I will have a look later to see if I can find it for you as I'm just about to have lunch. all the best Les

Roman republican p servilius m f rullus victory in biga .

Your coin should be a silver denarus I don't know how to cut and past but if you go to Timeline auctions it's Lot 2435
under ( roman republican p servilius m f rullus ar denarius Lot 2435)
It could be an anchent forgery from 100 BC I know that the romans debased some of there coins = bronze core with a silver coating over the top
so you might have one of them. sorry that I can't be more help, you could email Timeline auctions in the UK and they might be more help.

You might be on the TV now under the heading Man finds 100BC coin in the USA, at least when someone askes you what's the oldest coin that you have
ever found you can tell them.
Well found and happy hunting to you Les in the UK

It could have been dropped by someone who bought it for their collection etc....someimtes the kids get hold of them, show their mates, and lose it. Anyway, is in very good condition. I'd keep it....well done!

There were some Roman artifacts found in 2015 in KY. I posted a link to a thread about it here in the metal detecting forum. I would love to find one of those. My friends dad found one in the 1970's here in TN. It was in some clay at a construction site. He found it after it rained. I think it is awesome!!

Well, I found out today that it is a reproduction of the coin that Les in the UK posted. It was exciting for a while anyway.

Sorry to hear that it was a reproduction, but just something about it that was just not right for something of that age,it would have been a stunning finds.

I have a plan take it and toss it on oak island :buds: they would flip if they found that :clapping:

sick I am.......

kool find none the less.

AJ

You can still say that you have found a roman coin JEF even if it was a reproduction mate, many of the guys who live in the UK have never found a Roman coin so don't feel too bad.
All the best and happy hunting to you Les in the UK.
