Found this copper coin, appears to be a 1720 six Deniers

From the detail that remains I can see a crown and a shield below and what seems to be some of the date above the crown. In the sunlight I can see the 3 things in the shield and the letters DOV behind the bust. I cleaned it rubbing it with my fingers only. Found behind an old house about 3 inches deep. Too bad its in poor condition, but the search was fun. Gotta go back when the weeds die out. Jabbo

super sweet find Jabbo! Maybe there is a pine tree shilling waiting for you in the back yard :)

According to the Official Red Book this 1720 six Deniers was not released into circulation because the metal they had did not meet the requirements. Yet, it shows in the coin book with prices for Fine to Extra Fine. It is rare, valued at $600 in Fine condition. But this one is poor I'd say. Will bring it to a coin shop to be sure what it is.

Jabbo, Did you find that in the New Orleans area? That's where they seemed to circulate although anything that looked like a coin was in circulation in the 1700's.

Don, Found it in NJ.

I searched Google and found this coin. Made from 1720 to 1724, mine is 1722. Using a magnifying glass I can see the 22 on the right above the crown. Not worth anything in this condition but is a nice old find. An English 1718 penny is my oldest found several years ago and this French coin my second oldest.

Congratulations! great find.:clapping: It looks pretty clear the date and other details such as the three lilies.
For us, it is my view, the value date is more than conservation. It is very difficult to find a copper over 100 years in good condition, but not impossible.
You can get her a couple of days in distilled water and Ships whole earth, then in Spanish olive oil, but not scratch or rub, fuuuck that
Thanks for sharing

on the east side of the house with the X-Terra. Went back the next day, searched the cornfield for two hours but found no coins. Seems like the CoinStrike cleaned out the few that were there. Yesterday, I tried the yard behind the house but is way too weedy to swing the coil, no keepers found. HH, Dave

Congrats on a fantastic find !

Looking at the photo's from here - the head figure on your coin looks different / wider profile - than the one in the book photo ?

no coins and the back yard is too overgrown to swing the coil.
E-TRAC-OHIO, The coin I saw on Google is an exact match as mine, is slightly different from the one in the coin book. Those are some awesome coins you have listed in your profile. Were they found in Ohio? I'm still searching for my first Capped Bust Silver.
